Health Systems Advisor

A nonprofit in Togo is looking for experienced monitoring and evaluation (M&E) professionals to help strengthen their data collection and reporting systems.

Supporting Development and Community Health (Appui au Développement et à la Santé Communautaire) is a nonprofit organization that has been working for 30 years to meet the basic needs of vulnerable and marginalized populations, especially in rural areas. The organization currently implements initiatives in community health, child protection, and food security in collaboration with multiple partners, including the Ministry of Health of Togo. Each partner and donor relies on its own monitoring and evaluation systems and tools, which are often not aligned. As a result, staff must navigate and manage multiple parallel systems, creating a heavy reporting burden and reducing efficiency.

As a Health Systems Advisor, you will work alongside the nonprofit staff to assess existing processes, design an integrated M&E system, and support its implementation. Your work will help ensure that the new system meets partner and donor requirements while streamlining data collection and reporting. By building the capacity of staff to manage and utilize this strengthened system, you will enhance organizational efficiency and improve access to high‑quality data that supports informed decision‑making and more impactful programming.

Bachelor's degree in public health, international development, statistics, social science, or a related field.
AND
Two or more years of experience with monitoring, evaluation, and learning (MEL), including the use of data collection and analysis software.

The Volunteer will spend the first few days of orientation in a hotel in the capital before moving to the training center that offers basic accommodations, including a private bathroom, electricity, and running water. The Volunteer will then settle in a major city in the Centrale Region, where modest housing will be provided by the host organization. The donated house offers basic accommodation, including bedroom, living room or cooking area, electricity and private bathing room and toilet. In the Centrale Region, French is the primary language used, followed by Tem.

Assess the M&E systems, practices, and tools.
Support a system redesign that meets internal and donor needs.
Contribute to the design and implementation of capacity-building activities for staff.
Support the sustainable management of the data system.
Contribute to data collection, analysis, and reporting that is both accurate and timely.
Identify lessons learned and support decision-making based on project data.
Encourage and support community participation in activities to foster local ownership.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities such as after-school English conversation clubs or an environmental clean-up project.

After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban community where you will collaborate with nonprofit staff to assess the needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Togo will equip you with French and Tem language resources. You may work with a tutor who can help you build basic local language skills to connect with the community.
