Organizational Development Advisor

Professionals skilled in grant management, data analysis, and program operations are invited to help communities in Tonga build a more resilient future.

Tonga is among the world’s most vulnerable countries to environmental threats and natural disasters, making proactive, science-based adaptation essential. These natural hazards put livelihoods, food security, and community wellbeing at continual risk. Yet Tonga also possesses indigenous environmental knowledge and longstanding cultural practices that support effective resource management—an essential component for community resilience and preparedness. With environmental awareness, adaptation, and disaster risk management a top priority, organizations across Tonga’s are looking to be more strategic. Mainstreaming of Rural Innovation Tonga Trust (MORDI Tonga Trust) and Live & Learn Tonga recently mobilized new programs focused on environmental resilience, disaster risk reduction (DRR), and emergency response. The teams are interested in developing their capacities in project monitoring, data analysis, and reporting to ensure programmatic success.

As an Organizational Development Advisor, you will collaborate with MORDI Tonga Trust or Live & Learn Tonga to identify opportunities to develop the staff’s skills and improve the management of community-driven projects in the environment, agriculture, and disaster risk management sectors. Together, you will focus on data collection; monitoring, evaluation, and reporting; knowledge management; grants management; and overall operations. Your contributions will enable the organization to strengthen operational efficiency and effectiveness for a larger impact.

Bachelor's degree in a relevant field, including social science, education, business, management and organizational development.
AND
Three or more years of technical expertise in organizational capacity development and training, strategic planning, or results-based project management and reporting.

Volunteers will live in an independent house with electricity and running water on the main island of Tonga. Housing will be located within a 45-minute walk to and from the partner’s office.

Gain hands-on experience supporting a nonprofit’s environmental resilience and agriculture programs.

Develop marketable skills advising on program management and monitoring and evaluation (M&E).

Build lasting relationships that will deepen your understanding of life for Pacific Islanders and their connection to the land and the ocean.

Conduct an organizational needs assessment and review related organizational systems.

Develop contextualized and feasible monitoring and reporting solutions for real-time data collection and improved analysis.

Coordinate and support the rollout of new systems or processes.

Develop standard operating procedures and other documentation to support the implementation of new monitoring, reporting, or operational processes.

Provide training on grant development and management processes.

Review donor requirements and build the staff’s capacity to comply with grant requirements.

Support project budgets, workplans, procurement plans, and a variety of reports.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as organizing environmental education camps or community outreach.

After a three-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to a peri-urban community where you will collaborate with the staff at MORDI Tonga Trust or Live & Learn Tonga to assess the programmatic needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Tonga will equip you with Tonga language resources and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
