STEM Education Trainer

Are you an experienced science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) educator or teacher trainer with an interest in transforming learning? PathLight Belize, a nonprofit organization commitment to education, invites you to help inspire the next generation of innovators.

Belize’s education system serves approximately 100,000 students across 630 institutions with a workforce of about 5,700 teachers. While the government has made significant investments in education reform, many teachers still lack access to sustained professional development, mentorship, and practical coaching in modern instructional strategies. One-time workshops alone have not been enough to drive lasting change, particularly in competency-based education, early literacy, and special education. As schools work to meet evolving national education priorities, teachers require ongoing opportunities to refine their skills through coaching, classroom-based support, and collaborative learning.

As a STEM Education Trainer, you will collaborate with PathLight Belize’s team to expand its professional development program during an exciting period of growth. Through classroom observations and instructional coaching, you will help teachers integrate STEM methodologies and competency-based instruction into the classroom. Your efforts will foster an engaging, student-centered learning environment where curiosity, critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving can flourish. Through collaboration with Belizean educators and education stakeholders, you will help equip teachers and students with the skills needed to thrive in an evolving global landscape.

Bachelor's degree in science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM), or in a related field (e.g., education) with a teaching certification.
AND
Two or more years of teaching experience in one of the following areas: math, chemistry, physics, computer science, biology, earth sciences, or art.

The Volunteer will live independently in a non-touristy urban area within the Belize District, Belmopan District, or Orange Walk District. The Volunteer should expect to bike or walk to the work site. Electricity, running water, internet connection will be readily available.

Gain a deeper understanding of South American educational challenges and experience developing solutions that are culturally appropriate.

Develop Kriol and Spanish language skills while immersing yourself in Belizean culture and building meaningful relationships.

Apply your professional skills and passion to support Belizean educators in advancing their skills.

Develop curriculum materials and teacher training resources aligned with Belize’s national curriculum, including robotics, coding, and inquiry-based learning activities.

Establish and support mentoring systems by creating lesson observation tools, teacher self-assessments, and structured professional support frameworks.

Conduct classroom observations and provide instructional coaching to teachers.

Facilitate professional development training for teachers in innovative STEM instructional methodologies and educational technology integration.

Create digital and print teaching resources, including lesson plan templates, coding and robotics guides, and STEM assessment tools.

Collaborate with Ministry of Education representatives, district education centers, and educators to align STEM training initiatives with national education priorities.

Develop monitoring and evaluation tools to measure teacher growth, instructional improvement, and the impact of training activities.

Train PathLight staff and education partners in coaching approaches to support long-term program sustainability.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as organizing community science fairs and supporting STEM-focused art projects.

After a two-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to an urban community where you will collaborate with PathLight Belize to assess the needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Belize will equip you with limited Kriol and Spanish language resources and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
