Apply your passion for e-learning to support science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) in Ecuador!

Yachay Tech University is entering a critical phase of growth and will adopt the STEM+H model, which integrates STEM fields with humanism to better address societal needs. The university currently lacks a cohesive pedagogical framework that connects the hard sciences with human-centered, digital education. To bridge this gap, the university’s language center aims to become a school of languages and launch a new undergraduate major: educational technology for English Language Teaching (ELT). This program applies the STEM+H model by combining digital system design with the humanistic foundations of language learning. External expertise is needed to develop the technical curriculum and train future English educators who are proficient in both the language and in human-centered educational technologies, such as AI‑driven learning and digital content design.

As a University Digital Literacy Trainer, you will share your specialized expertise in digital learning to design syllabi that meet international EdTech standards while ensuring that the "Humanism" of the STEM+H model is embedded in every digital tool developed.

Bachelor's degree in education technology or a relevant field.
AND
Two or more years of teaching experience using digital or e-learning tools.

The Volunteer will live independently in an apartment at or near the university and museum site in a small town located in the Imbabura province. The daily commute typically involves a short walk or a brief bus/shuttle ride from town to the office. While the university has computer labs, it is recommended that the Volunteer use their own laptop for specialized curriculum development.

Strengthen Spanish language skills through daily interactions and collaborations.
Gain international experience developing faculty capacity in digital learning tools and approaches.
Build lasting connections within Ecuador’s Imbabura province situated in the northern Andes.

Develop the undergraduate curriculum for the new major, ensuring alignment with international standards and the STEM+H model.
Conduct a comprehensive audit of the university’s current learning management system (LMS) and provide actionable recommendations for integrating advanced tools.
Develop and facilitate a series of professional development workshops for faculty on digital instructional design.
Architect a framework for "virtual labs" or digital practice spaces that allow ELT students to experiment with emerging educational technologies in a controlled, humanistic environment.
Design a standardized set of guidelines and digital templates for the creation of high-quality virtual course content.
Mentor professors through a structured "train-the-trainer" model to ensure the long-term management of the new curriculum.
Ensure that new pedagogical tools are technically compatible with institutional infrastructure and security standards.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as after-school clubs or extracurricular activities in English.

After a 1-week orientation on topics such as health and safety, you will move to a town in the Imbabura province where you will collaborate with the university staff to assess needs and develop a work plan in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Ecuador will equip you with Spanish language resources, and you may work with a local tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
