Youth Development Educator

The Philippines has one of the youngest populations in Southeast Asia, presenting tremendous potential for the country’s future. Yet many young people face barriers to higher education and meaningful employment. Financial pressures often require students to prioritize supporting their families over continuing their education, while limited access to affordable colleges and inadequate preparation for college entrance tests further restrict their opportunities. The pandemic further compounded these challenges, disrupting learning, reducing social connections, and impacting the well-being of children and youth. In response, the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) is working with local government units, schools, and community organizations to strengthen youth development services.

As a Youth Development Educator, you will work alongside youth service providers and educators to develop employability and essential life skills among youth. Together, you will create stronger youth support, increase community participation, and generate opportunities for young people to succeed academically and professionally. These efforts will help foster more resilient communities and support the Philippines’ long-term social and economic development.

Qualified candidates will meet the following criteria:
Education:
Bachelor of Arts/Bachelor of Science degree in any field. Degree in social work, psychology or another related field is an advantage.

In underdeveloped areas, housing construction is typically a hollow concrete block or a mix of concrete, wood, and bamboo. Housing in more developed urban areas can range from the same construction as in underdeveloped areas to modern, concrete designs. Most houses have running water and electricity but do not have air conditioning. Access to internet will vary and cannot be guaranteed.

Build practical skills in youth development, community engagement, project management, and nonprofit management.
Improve your interpersonal skills and confidence with public speaking.
Gain hands-on experience facilitating life skills, leadership, and employability programs with young people and youth-serving organizations.

Conduct community assessments to identify opportunities to strengthen youth education.

Implement youth and community services that build leadership and life skills.

Build transferable life and workforce skills among Filipino youth and youth service providers.

Facilitate engaging sessions on life skills, civic engagement, financial literacy, employability, and age-appropriate sexual and reproductive health.

Create meaningful volunteering and community engagement opportunities at schools and within the community.

Facilitate life skills activities with high school students and college-aged individuals to build confidence, communication, and decision-making skills.

Develop supportive intervention programs for children from the most economically vulnerable families.

You may also work on additional projects that meet the community’s interests and priorities, such as youth summer leadership camps and grant writing workshops.

After 10.5 weeks of orientation on topics such as health and safety you will move to an urban or rural community where you will collaborate with a government agency or a state university or college. You will work with the community to assess the needs and develop solutions based on the work plan you will mutually develop in line with their established goals.

Peace Corps/Philippines will help equip you with language resources and you may work with a tutor who can help you build basic language skills to connect with the community.
