The Senior Power BI Developer is responsible for designing and delivering advanced business intelligence solutions that transform complex data into meaningful insights. The role develops scalable dashboards, builds robust data models, and supports the organisation's data-driven decision-making processes.
Working closely with stakeholders across departments, the Senior Power BI Developer translates business requirements into technical solutions, integrates multiple data sources, and ensures reporting frameworks are efficient, accurate, and scalable.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Design and develop advanced Power BI dashboards and interactive reports
- Deliver reporting solutions that support operational and strategic decision-making
- Develop scalable reporting frameworks used across departments
- Build complex data models and relationships within Power BI
- Optimise data structures to improve dashboard performance
- Design semantic models and reusable reporting datasets
- Integrate Power BI with multiple data sources including ERP, CRM, APIs, and databases
- Automate reporting workflows and scheduled data refresh pipelines
- Improve reporting efficiency through automation and optimisation
- Translate business requirements into data-driven insights
- Identify trends and performance indicators to support leadership decisions
- Develop executive dashboards and KPI frameworks
- Work with business leaders and stakeholders to define reporting requirements
- Mentor junior analysts and review dashboard quality
- Establish best practices for BI development and reporting governance
Requirements
~1 min read- 5+ years of hands-on software development experience
- Proven track record of building software platforms from the ground up — not just maintaining existing code
- Bot or automation development experience (chatbots, RPA, workflow automation or similar)
- Solid understanding of databases — query writing, schema design and day-to-day data management
- Working knowledge of APIs and third-party connectors, including REST, webhooks and OAuth-based integrations
- Power BI experience — building reports, connecting data sources and working with DAX or Power Query
- Web application development experience (front-end, back-end or full-stack)
- Familiarity with the Microsoft 365 or Azure ecosystem
- Experience working with Australian clients or AEST business hours
- Strong written communication and documentation habits
- Advanced experience with Microsoft Power BI
- Strong knowledge of DAX and Power Query
- Advanced SQL skills for querying and data transformation
- Experience building complex data models and dashboard architectures
- Strong analytical and problem-solving capability
- Ability to translate complex data into business insights
- Strong stakeholder communication skills
- Experience working in remote or distributed teams
