Pinnacle Construction Development Group, Inc. (Pinnacle) is seeking a Site Safety and Health Officer (SSHO) for a full-time, on-site position based at our Wright-Patterson Air Force Base (WPAFB) trailer in Dayton, Ohio. Founded in 2000 and based in Mentor, Ohio, Pinnacle delivers complex construction projects for federal clients.

Reporting to the Project Manager, you will serve as the dedicated SSHO for one assigned WPAFB project, working closely with a separate Superintendent and Quality Control Manager (QCM). You will lead daily safety efforts, help crews identify and control hazards, and maintain clear, accurate safety records.

Normal work hours are scheduled somewhere between 6:30 AM and 4:00 PM, with occasional evening, weekend, or shutdown coverage required.

Responsibilities

~2 min read

• Establish and maintain an effective safety and health program that meets contract requirements and OSHA Voluntary Protection Programs (VPP) objectives. Involve leadership, employees, and subcontractors in ongoing hazard analysis and the elimination or control of identified hazards.

• Implement and enforce approved Accident Prevention Plans (APPs) and Activity Hazard Analyses (AHAs). Review planned work with the project team and subcontractors, confirm hazard controls, and update safety measures as conditions change.

• Conduct daily safety and health inspections. Maintain a written log documenting inspection dates, areas and operations inspected, identified hazards, corrective action plans, follow-up notes, and estimated and actual correction dates.

• Track safety deficiencies through resolution. Promptly address unsafe conditions, coordinate corrective actions with the Project Manager and field team, and follow up to verify that hazards have been eliminated or controlled.

• Ensure all personnel on site have the training and personal protective equipment required for their work. Monitor subcontractor compliance with project safety requirements.

• Organize safety meetings for all workers and provide systematic training on hazards, safe work procedures, and individual responsibilities during normal operations and emergencies.

• Participate in all preparatory meetings for specific elements of work. Coordinate safety planning with the Superintendent, QCM, subcontractors, and Government representatives.

• Keep applicable safety reference materials, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), training certificates, inspection records, and other safety documentation current and accessible on site.

• Investigate incidents and near misses, document findings, and coordinate corrective measures and required reporting with the Project Manager.

• Maintain routine on-site presence throughout contract work and coordinate absences and equally qualified alternate coverage with the Project Manager. Ensure work does not proceed unless the Superintendent or QCM is present.

• At least five years of construction experience, including experience in hazard identification and safety compliance.

• Ability to read, write, and converse professionally and fluently in English and communicate safety expectations clearly with crews, subcontractors, Government personnel, and the project team.

• Current First Aid/CPR/AED certification and formal EM 385-1-1, fall protection, and scaffolding training are preferred at hire. Any missing credentials or training must be completed immediately after hire, before performing duties that require them.

• Strong organization, sound judgment, initiative, and follow-through. Ability to maintain accurate electronic safety records, document corrective actions, and work effectively with the project team.

• Ability to work full time on site, obtain and maintain required WPAFB access, and conduct regular inspections throughout an active construction site.
