In this role, you'll contribute to the U.S. Navy Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) program, supporting the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and sustainment of critical combat system capabilities. Working alongside engineers, technicians, and government personnel, you'll help ensure mission readiness and reliable system performance in support of national defense.
About the Role
As an SSDS Maintenance Technician, you will support the operational readiness of the U.S. Navy's Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) by performing organizational-level maintenance, troubleshooting system issues, and executing preventive and corrective maintenance activities. You'll work hands-on with advanced combat system hardware and software in a mission-critical environment, helping ensure the reliability and availability of systems used to protect U.S. Navy assets. This position offers the opportunity to apply your technical expertise while working alongside experienced government and contractor personnel supporting one of the Navy's premier combat system programs.
Responsibilities
- Perform organizational-level corrective and preventive maintenance on Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) equipment and associated subsystems.
- Assess, diagnose, isolate, and resolve hardware and software faults affecting SSDS system performance.
- Monitor and manage operation of SSDS MK 2 Open Architecture (OA) Tech Refresh configurations in accordance with operational procedures.
- Document maintenance actions, discrepancies, repairs, and system status in accordance with Navy maintenance requirements.
- Support system operational testing, troubleshooting, and verification following maintenance activities.
- Coordinate with government personnel, engineers, and other technicians to resolve complex technical issues.
- Ensure maintenance activities are performed safely while adhering to technical manuals, configuration management, and quality standards.
- Support mission readiness by maintaining high system availability and rapidly responding to operational maintenance requirements.

Required Skills and Experience
- Seven (7) years of demonstrated experience assessing, troubleshooting, and performing corrective and preventive maintenance on Ship Self Defense System (SSDS) equipment.
- Experience performing documented organizational-level maintenance on SSDS systems.
- Experience monitoring and managing operation of SSDS MK 2 OA Tech Refresh MODs 1C, 3C, 5C, and 6C.
- Experience supporting SSDS OA MK 2 OA Tech Refresh MODs 1C, 2C, 3C, and 5C configurations.
- Experience supporting SSDS OA MK 2 OA Tech Refresh MODs 1C, 2C, 3C, and 5C with TI-12H ORDALT configurations.
- Experience supporting BFTT AN/USQ-T46D(V) configurations.
- Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex hardware and software issues within Navy combat systems.
- Ability to accurately document maintenance actions and follow established technical procedures.
- Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team supporting mission-critical operations.
Preferred Skills and Experience
- Previous experience supporting U.S. Navy surface combat systems.
- Experience supporting Integrated Combat Systems (ICS) or Aegis-related platforms.
- Familiarity with Navy maintenance management processes and documentation.
- Experience supporting system installation, integration, or modernization efforts.
- Prior military service supporting Navy combat systems.
- Experience working in a government or Department of Defense contractor environment.
Education and Certification Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Information Systems or a related field.
- Four (4) additional years of directly related SSDS maintenance experience may be substituted for the required degree.
- Relevant DoD or OEM technical certifications are desirable but not required.
Citizenship and Clearance Requirements
- U.S. Citizenship required.
- No dual citizenship.
- Active Secret security clearance required.
- Active Top Secret security clearance preferred.

- Onsite
- Wallops Island, Virginia
Travel & Passport
- Less than 10% travel.
- Primarily CONUS travel, if required, to support program meetings, training, or operational requirements.
Work Environment
- PMAT offices as needed. In some cases, work in a government facility may be required. Travel may be required for customer engagement, team coordination, and potentially for business development.
