Senior DevOps Engineer

As a Senior DevOps Engineer, you will work closely with IT, development teams, and technology stakeholders to maintain, develop, and support Proto Labs’ internal and external business applications. You will also contribute to improving deployment reliability, automation, high availability, and the technical capabilities of the broader team.

• Drive effective provisioning, installation, configuration, operation, and maintenance of enterprise infrastructure and application environments.
• Manage and support version control systems, build tools, and continuous integration tools.
• Work closely with development teams to support applications and promote Site Reliability Engineering practices.
• Support enterprise server environments and application infrastructure to ensure reliability and operational continuity.

• Continuously identify opportunities to increase deployment dependability and reduce manual intervention.
• Automate manual and repetitive processes to improve operational efficiency, consistency, and reliability.
• Support code releases into highly available application environments.
• Contribute to continuous deployment practices using tools such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.

• Develop and support high-availability solutions, including load-balancer configurations.
• Help maintain highly available applications and improve overall system reliability and resilience.
• Work with development and technology teams to identify and resolve deployment, infrastructure, and operational challenges.
• Participate in 24x7 coverage for the area of responsibility, including occasional after-hours support and on-call duties.

• Support cloud management across AWS and Azure environments.
• Work with microservices-based environments and technologies such as Kubernetes and service discovery.
• Implement and maintain infrastructure using configuration management and Infrastructure as Code tools such as Ansible and Terraform.
• Support Linux environments with a focus on system hardening and security.

• Assist in growing and training other team members through knowledge sharing, technical guidance, and hands-on support.
• Contribute to improving team practices, automation standards, and operational processes.
• Collaborate with IT, development, and other technology stakeholders to drive reliable and scalable solutions.

• 5+ years of experience managing servers in an enterprise environment.
• 5+ years of experience supporting code releases into highly available applications.
• 2+ years of experience supporting server configuration management tooling.
• 2+ years of experience supporting highly available applications.
• Strong experience with Ansible and Terraform.
• Experience with continuous deployment technologies such as Azure DevOps and GitHub.
• Strong understanding of Git and code versioning.
• Experience with HAProxy or similar load-balancing technologies.
• Knowledge of JSON/REST.
• Experience working with microservices, Kubernetes, and service discovery.
• Knowledge of Linux OS hardening and security.
• Experience with cloud management across AWS and Azure.

• Demonstrated ability to identify manual processes and automate them effectively.
• Strong troubleshooting and analytical capabilities.
• Ability to improve deployment reliability and reduce operational dependencies through automation.
• Strong understanding of infrastructure, application availability, and deployment practices.

• Ability to work effectively with development, IT, and technology stakeholders.
• Experience supporting and mentoring team members through technical knowledge sharing and training.
• Strong ownership and accountability for infrastructure and application reliability.

• Bachelor’s degree or 7–10 years of relevant work experience.
• 5+ years of relevant enterprise server and infrastructure experience.
