Job Title: Locum Speech and Language Therapist – Autism Assessment Service – Birmingham
Banding: Band 6/7
Location: Multiple sites across Birmingham
Start Date: ASAP
Rate: £24.00–£32.00 per hour
Working Hours: Full-time or Part-time considered
Contract Duration: 3 Months

We are currently seeking an experienced and dedicated Speech and Language Therapist to join a multidisciplinary Autism Assessment Service across Birmingham on a locum basis. This is an excellent opportunity for a Band 6 or Band 7 Speech and Language Therapist with experience in autism assessments to support children and young people through a comprehensive diagnostic pathway.

Working as part of a highly skilled multidisciplinary team (MDT), you will play a key role in delivering high-quality autism assessments, contributing specialist clinical expertise to ensure accurate and timely diagnoses. This flexible locum opportunity is available on either a full-time or part-time basis for an initial three-month contract.

Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Complete autism assessments for children and young people as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead and contribute to diagnostic assessments using specialist clinical knowledge and evidence-based practice.
  • Carry out Autism Diagnostic Observation Schedule (ADOS) assessments as part of the diagnostic pathway.
  • Work collaboratively with professionals across the MDT to support clinical decision-making.
  • Maintain accurate and timely clinical records in line with professional standards and service requirements.
  • Provide specialist communication assessments to support autism diagnoses where appropriate.

To be considered for this role, you must have:

  • A recognised degree in Speech and Language Therapy (or equivalent).
  • HCPC registration.
  • ADOS training with proven experience conducting autism assessments.
  • Previous experience assessing children and young people for Autism Spectrum Condition (ASC).
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary teams.
  • Excellent communication, assessment, and report-writing skills.
