Our client is seeking a passionate and dedicated Occupational Therapist to join their clinical team in Wakefield. This rewarding opportunity offers the chance to make a genuine difference to the lives of children and young people with complex needs within a highly supportive specialist education environment.

The school is an independent specialist day school providing high-quality education for boys and girls with a wide range of complex learning needs, social and emotional difficulties, and challenging behaviours. Working as part of a multidisciplinary clinical team, you will play a key role in creating therapeutic learning environments that enable pupils to achieve positive outcomes and reach their full potential.

Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality occupational therapy assessments and interventions for children and young people with complex needs.
  • Deliver individualised, outcome-focused therapeutic programmes based on clinical assessment and formulation.
  • Support educational and residential colleagues in creating therapeutic learning and living environments.
  • Work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team to ensure therapeutic support is embedded throughout the school.
  • Provide consultation, advice, workshops, training, and guidance to education and care staff.
  • Support pupils with developmental trauma, neurodevelopmental conditions, and special educational needs.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of therapeutic services and clinical practice within the school.
  • Help maximise pupil engagement, independence, wellbeing, and participation in education.

Requirements

  • Qualified Occupational Therapist registered with the HCPC.
  • Experience delivering therapeutic interventions for children and young people with complex needs.
  • Experience supporting teams around a child or young person to create clinically informed learning and living environments.
  • Strong understanding of developmental trauma, neurodevelopmental conditions, SEN, and SEMH needs.
  • Confident, engaging, and effective communicator, trainer, and role model.
  • Highly organised with excellent planning and prioritisation skills.
  • Committed to achieving the best possible outcomes for children and young people.
