What We Offer

~1 min read

Our journey began with two innovators, Richie Stapler and Bruno Lima, and their shared vision of revolutionizing how we experience fragrance. Since then, Pura has grown into a company that sells a fragrance every 3.7 seconds, partnering with iconic brands like Curio, Anthropologie, and Disney. We’ve been recognized as the Fastest Growing Company in Utah, and we are passionate about making scent a core part of life’s most memorable moments.

Pura is seeking an experienced, commercially minded compliance leader to establish and lead the company's Compliance function. This is a unique opportunity to build a practical, risk-based compliance program within a fast-growing consumer products and technology company.

The successful candidate will combine strategic judgment with a willingness to roll up their sleeves and address day-to-day compliance needs. Initially operating as a department of one, this individual will assess Pura's regulatory, contractual, and operational compliance risks; identify and prioritize areas requiring greater attention; and develop a phased approach to implementing effective, appropriately scaled compliance practices.

Rather than building bureaucracy, this leader will focus on practical solutions that leverage existing business resources, technology, outside expertise, and targeted investments where appropriate. The role will work closely with Legal and business leaders to establish clear accountability, strengthen compliance processes, and help Pura navigate an increasingly complex regulatory environment.

Above all, we are looking for a pragmatic, resourceful leader who understands that an effective compliance function which helps the business move faster and more confidently.

You will help us inspire a belief in the power of fragrance to craft and elevate memorable moments for our Owners. This is your chance to make an impact in a high-growth company that’s redefining the way people experience scent.

What You’ll Own:

Pura operates at the intersection of consumer products, fragrance, technology, and retail, creating a broad and evolving range of regulatory and contractual obligations. Depending on the company's risk assessment and business priorities, the Compliance leader may be involved in areas including:

  • Product Regulatory Compliance:
    • Fragrance ingredients, chemical restrictions, product labeling, safety standards, testing, and regulatory certifications.
  • Environmental and Sustainability Compliance:
    • Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR), packaging regulations, environmental reporting, and related sustainability obligations.
  • Retailer and Commercial Partner Requirements:
    • Responding to retailer compliance inquiries, coordinating product certifications and documentation, and ensuring adherence to applicable retailer and distribution requirements.
  • Consumer Protection and Subscription Compliance:
    • Automatic renewal laws, consumer disclosures, subscription practices, and other consumer protection requirements.
  • Marketing and Advertising Compliance:
    • Advertising claims, product representations, endorsements, promotional practices, and related substantiation requirements.
  • Privacy and Data Protection:
    • Supporting compliance with applicable consumer privacy and data protection requirements in coordination with Legal, IT, and other business functions.
  • Supply Chain and Vendor Compliance:
    • Supplier standards, sourcing requirements, labor practices, and applicable supply chain regulations.

    • Coordinating processes relating to product safety concerns, incident reporting, recalls, and associated regulatory obligations.
  • International Regulatory Compliance:
    • Supporting Pura's expansion into international markets by identifying and coordinating applicable product, packaging, environmental, and commercial compliance requirements.

The Compliance leader may or may not assume direct operational responsibility for each of these areas. Rather, the role will assess relevant risks, establish appropriate accountability, and work with business leaders to determine the most effective and efficient means of ensuring compliance. Depending on the circumstances, this may involve direct execution, oversight of existing business processes, outside service providers, technology solutions, or additional resources.

The role requires the flexibility to move comfortably between strategic oversight and hands-on execution, particularly as Pura establishes and matures its compliance capabilities.

Qualifications:

  • Meaningful experience with regulatory and compliance matters involving consumer-facing products or brands. (Experience with international product compliance, beauty and fragrance, and electronic devices is a plus.)
  • Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (JD, MBA, or other relevant graduate degree) a plus.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand complex regulatory requirements, assess business risks, and develop practical, commercially sensible solutions.
  • Demonstrated ability to assess and develop cross functional risk management strategies.
  • Exceptional analytical ability, sound judgment, and intellectual curiosity, with the capacity to quickly understand unfamiliar regulatory and business issues.
  • Highly organized and self-directed, with a proven ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, competing priorities, and deadlines.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and navigate sensitive or difficult conversations with diplomacy and good judgment.
  • Calm, resourceful, and solutions-oriented under pressure, with the ability to exercise sound judgment in ambiguous or rapidly changing circumstances.
  • A hands-on, roll-up-your-sleeves mentality, with a genuine willingness to tackle both strategic initiatives and routine operational tasks.
  • Collaborative and approachable; a sense of humor, and a genuine enjoyment of working with others in a fast-paced environment.
