Candidates must be comfortable responding to emergencies on short notice and working extended hours as operational needs require.

  • Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of trucks, trailers, and equipment in accordance with company procedures and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.

  • Transport equipment and materials to and from job sites using tractor-trailers.

  • Inspect transported loads and verify permits and specifications for oversized or overweight equipment.

  • Participate in daily work planning and safety briefings before beginning field assignments.

  • Load, unload, move, and stage equipment and materials for load adjustment, load transfer, derailment recovery, and track work.

  • Assist with adjusting, transferring, and securing loads during railroad operations.

  • Support rerailing activities, railcar maintenance and repairs, track maintenance, track construction, and related field projects as assigned.

  • Assist with assembling, inspecting, operating, and dismantling cranes and other heavy equipment.

  • Perform rigging tasks using chains, cables, and winches during field operations.

  • Operate heavy equipment when qualified, including cranes, backhoes, grapple trucks, dump trucks, excavators, bulldozers, front-end loaders, tractors, rail-bound equipment, and skid-steer loaders.

  • Use hydraulic tools, welding equipment, cutting torches, electrical tools, and common hand tools to complete assigned work.

  • Monitor vehicles and machinery for safe operation and readiness, performing minor servicing and documenting maintenance activities.

  • Refer complex mechanical problems to the appropriate shop supervisor or foreman.

  • Reload equipment and materials after assignments, assist with site cleanup, restock vehicles and equipment, and organize supplies and scrap materials at the home base.

  • Complete required safety training and preventive maintenance tasks during periods without emergency callouts.

  • Maintain clean, organized work areas and follow all applicable safety procedures.

  • Assist other field teams or departments when needed to support operational requirements.

    • Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL-A) with a good driving record.

    • Experience in construction labor or a comparable physically demanding position.

    • Ability to perform physical fieldwork and safely handle equipment and materials.

    • Willingness to operate heavy machinery when qualified and trained.

    • Ability to follow DOT requirements, safety procedures, and equipment operating guidelines.

    • Availability for 24/7 emergency response, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

    • Ability to work extended shifts and accommodate unpredictable schedules.

    • Willingness to complete required qualification tests, training, and safety programs.

    • Three or more years of heavy equipment operating experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.

    • Experience operating backhoes, bulldozers, excavators, front-end loaders, grapple trucks, rail-bound equipment, tractors, and skid-steer loaders.

    • Familiarity with load adjustment, load transfer, railroad recovery, track maintenance, or construction operations.

    • Basic mechanical maintenance and equipment servicing experience.

    • Guaranteed 40 hours per week, with significant overtime opportunities.

    • Typical workweeks average 60+ hours and may reach 70 hours, depending on operational demands.

    • Hours worked outside the Monday–Friday, 7:00 AM–4:00 PM schedule are paid at the applicable overtime rate of time and a half, subject to the employer's overtime policy and applicable law.

    • Additional compensation may include per diem, hotel pay for travel, and layover pay when applicable.

    • Employees must remain available for emergency assignments throughout the week, including weekends and holidays.

    • Full benefits package.

    • Opportunities to gain experience across load adjustment, railroad recovery, track work, and heavy equipment operations.

    • Equipment training and preventive maintenance experience during non-emergency periods.

    • Successful completion of a pre-employment drug screening.
