Mechatronics Engineering Intern

This is a paid internship. Compensation for this position begins at $27.00 per hour.

Role Summary: 

Quantum Signal AI is looking for a summer 2027 Mechatronics Engineering Intern. The Mechatronics team designs, builds, tests, and supports mechanical and electronic systems in an R&D environment. As an intern, you will contribute to active engineering projects while working alongside multidisciplinary teams. Successful candidates will have a strong interest in mechanical systems, hands-on engineering work, and continuous learning through real-world applications. We value individuals who enjoy learning new skills, exploring diverse technical challenges, and contributing across multiple areas of a project. We are located in Saline, Michigan. This position is in-person to encourage a culture of collaboration and mentorship.  

• →Design various mounts and mechanisms to support electromechanical systems using CAD software. 
• →Build, assemble, and integrate prototype and production hardware, including mechanical and electromechanical subsystems. 
• →Troubleshoot systems and identify opportunities for improvement to develop practical engineering solutions. 
• →Collaborate with mechanical, electrical, software, and research engineers on active project teams. 
• →Participate in design reviews and collaborative problem solving with the Mechatronics team.  
• →Perform electrical work including soldering, crimping, creating wire harnesses, etc. 
• →Document designs, testing activities, and engineering processes to support project execution and future development efforts.  

• Current enrollment as a Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics Engineering, or related degree program, with sophomore standing or above. 
• Experience using CAD software (Fusion 360, Catia, SolidWorks, etc.). 
• Hands-on experience through coursework, clubs, competitions, research, personal projects, hobbies, or previous work. 
• Motivation to tackle new challenges and receive constructive feedback. 
• Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot and pursue creative approaches and practical solutions. 
• Strong understanding of core mechanical engineering principles and the ability to apply them to practical challenges. 
• Curiosity, adaptability, and commitment to continuous learning.  
• Ability to apply existing technology to new situations. 
• Ability to lift objects of various shapes, sizes, and weights (up to 30 lbs.). 
• Ability to safely walk and stand for extended periods of time, reach (including above your head), bend, climb, push, pull, twist, squat, and kneel as necessary. 

• Experience with hand tools, power tools, and fabrication. 
• Experience with reverse engineering, evaluating, and improving existing mechanical or electromechanical systems. 
• Previous internship, co-op, or work experience in a technical environment. 
• Familiarity with electrical concepts, components, and test equipment. 
• Experience collaborating as a member of multidisciplinary teams. 
• Familiarity with mechanical load simulations or similar. 
• Knowledge of 3D printing and related software.
