Legal Counsel (part-time)

Imagination develops world-leading processor technologies for silicon chips used by more than 1 billion people every day. This is an opportunity to join our Legal and Compliance Department and play an important role in supporting our growing global IP licensing business. Working alongside other solicitors and patent attorneys, you will advise on a broad range of matters, including the commercialisation and protection of our intellectual property and technology, commercial contracting, procurement, and legal and regulatory compliance

If you are looking to take a step back from a full-time role but still play an important part in the growth and development of a leading semiconductor licensing company, this could be the role for you. This role will be a part-time hybrid role (3 days per week) with flexibility to work from our Kings Langley HQ or our Bristol offices alongside remote working, with an expectation for occasional visits to Kings Langley as we look to integrate you in the team and the business.

Reporting to the Director of Legal, you will :

• Help our business realise its full growth potential whether as a private or public company;
• Advise upon and assist with the effective and timely conclusion of semiconductor technology IP licensing customer agreements and associated commercial agreements;
• Help to drive efficiencies in how we license our technology so our team can handle multiple transactions as we scale up our technology licensing programme;
• Provide pragmatic legal advice on procurement contracts and process, including advising on EDA and other inbound licensing agreements;
• Interact on a regular basis with the global sales, business development, product management, business operations and engineering teams;
• Foster a culture of compliance within the company and take the lead in helping to drive and define key processes (eg handling of open-source IP);
• Collaborate with other support functions, including finance, marketing, HR, IT and facilities;

You'll have:

• Qualification as a solicitor in England and Wales with at least three years’ post-qualification experience
• Experience in licensing semiconductor IP and domain knowledge of the semiconductor industry (in-house advantageous);
• An interest in current and future technology;
• An ability and willingness to learn in a fast-paced, demanding organisation, and embrace the use of AI to improve efficiencies;
• A pragmatic approach;
• An ability to proactively engage and communicate with senior stakeholders and employees throughout the business, irrespective of location;

You might also have:

• Experience in compliance work covering data protection, export controls and open-source licensing.
