We are seeking an experienced Contract Pressure Vessel Test Technician to operate and maintain the on-site hydrostatic test chamber, executing pressure testing on sealed vessels, housings, and pressurized components utilized in autonomous underwater vehicles (AUVs). These undersea platforms are flooded vehicle architectures, requiring electronics and water-sensitive subsystems to be housed inside individually sealed, pressurized enclosures.
This contract engagement is responsible for validating the structural integrity and watertight sealing of these enclosures before integration into production hardware. The contractor will set up and execute technical test procedures, record and monitor pressure data, generate documentation packages, and interface directly with production and engineering stakeholders to confirm parts meet strict engineering specifications.
· Hydrostatic Test Execution: Set up, operate, and monitor the hydrostatic test chamber to perform pressure testing on sealed vessels, housings, and related components. Follow established procedures to pressurize components to specified proof levels, maintain dwell times, and continuously monitor for pressure decay or leakage.
· Test Setup and Fixturing: Prepare test articles by installing necessary fittings, plugs, seals, sensors, and fluid interfaces. Verify fixture and test setups prior to pressurization. Maintain and stage testing fixtures, high-pressure tooling, and supporting hardware.
· Inspection and Anomaly Identification: Visually inspect components before, during, and after test sequences for leaks, seal degradation, weld flaws, structural
anomalies, or other non-conformances. Accurately document and isolate all non-conforming conditions.
· Data Recording and Quality Documentation: Maintain rigorous records of all test parameters, cycles, results, and observed conditions. Complete test logs, formal reports, and quality system documentation in accordance with standard operating procedures. Interpret precision pressure gauges and sensor data to ensure testing integrity.
· Equipment Maintenance and Calibration Tracking: Perform routine preventative maintenance on the chamber, pumps, valves, high-pressure lines, and instrumentation. Flag equipment requiring repair, overhaul, or recalibration.
· Safety and Environmental Compliance: Maintain strict compliance with safety guidelines governing high-pressure pneumatic and hydrostatic operations. Maintain clean and organized test bays, and promptly report any process anomalies or equipment hazards.
· Cross-Functional Collaboration: Interface with production teams, quality assurance, and engineering personnel to align test schedules, communicate test outcomes, and assist in root-cause isolation for failed units. Provide technical feedback regarding recurring build anomalies or design considerations.
· Process Improvement Support: Contribute technical input to improve test documentation, fixturing design, cycle times, and chamber throughput.
Requirements
~1 min read· 4+ years of hands-on experience in testing, inspection, or manufacturing assembly environments.
· Demonstrated experience with high-pressure testing (hydrostatic or pneumatic), leak detection methods, or comparable quality-verification testing.
· Proficiency in reading and working directly from technical documentation, engineering drawings, and detailed test plans.
· Strong procedural discipline and attention to detail when executing tests and recording empirical data.
· Demonstrated mechanical aptitude working with high-pressure systems, pumps, high-pressure fittings, fluid manifolds, and instrumentation gauges.
· Effective technical communication skills, both written and verbal, for documenting test reports and conveying results to engineering teams.
· Eligible to obtain and maintain an active U.S. Secret security clearance.
· Background in maritime, aerospace, or defense manufacturing environments.
· Hands-on experience with hydrostatic proof, leak, or burst testing of sealed electronic enclosures or pressure hulls.
· Familiarity with subsea robotics, AUVs, UUVs, or marine equipment.
· Active or prior VT (Visual Testing) or PT (Penetrant Testing) inspection credentials.
· Experience utilizing ERP or MES platforms for work order tracking and test data logging.
· Current or previous certifications in overhead crane operation, rigging, or confined spaces.
· Technical certificate, trade diploma, or Associate degree in a relevant technical or mechanical discipline.
