Modeling & Simulation Engineer (Internship or PT)
Quick Summary
Red Cell Partners is an incubation firm building and investing in rapidly scalable technology-led companies that are bringing revolutionary advancements to market in three distinct practice areas: healthcare, cyber, and national security. United by a shared sense of duty and deep belief in the power of innovation, Red Cell is developing powerful tools and solutions to address our Nation’s most pressing problems.
D2 is building a new class of advanced communications systems powered by the integration of plasma physics, radio-frequency engineering, and novel antenna architectures. Our work is aimed at overcoming fundamental limits in conventional antennas and enabling communications capabilities that are smaller, more wideband, and more resilient in demanding environments. We are taking breakthrough technology from the laboratory through rapid prototyping, rigorous modeling and test, product qualification, and operational deployment.
This is an opportunity to join a hands-on, multidisciplinary team working at the edge of electromagnetics, materials, electronics, plasma science, and mission-focused product development. The systems we are developing will reshape how defense, aerospace, and commercial users communicate across contested and congested RF environments.
About the RoleDash 2 Dynamics (D2) is seeking a part-time Modeling & Simulation Engineer or advanced engineering intern to accelerate the design of plasma-enabled antennas and next-generation communications hardware. You will build electromagnetic and multiphysics models, run disciplined trade studies, and connect simulation results to laboratory measurements so the team can make faster, better design decisions.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- Model physics that conventional antenna tools were never built for. Build coupled electromagnetic–plasma models of plasma chambers, antennas, matching networks, and enclosures, capturing how plasma density, collision frequency, and discharge conditions reshape impedance, bandwidth, efficiency, and radiation patterns.
- Help push electrically small antennas beyond conventional limits. Run frequency-domain, time-domain, and coupled-physics analyses to map fields, losses, and scaling behavior, with the boundary conditions, meshing discipline, and convergence checks needed to trust results in territory few have modeled before.
- Map the design space of an entirely new antenna class. Plan parameter sweeps and trade studies across geometry, materials, plasma properties, control schemes, and packaging constraints to reveal which variables truly drive performance and where the next breakthrough lies.
- Turn simulation into decisions. Screen concepts, quantify uncertainty, and build reusable, scriptable workflows that let the team iterate rapidly across product configurations and frequency bands, then translate results into clear recommendations on what to build and test next.
- Close the loop between simulation and real hardware. Partner with RF, electrical, mechanical, and test engineers to design experiments, then compare predictions against bench measurements of S-parameters, radiation patterns, and plasma behavior to sharpen the models with every test.
- Solve the mystery when hardware surprises us. Dig into post-test analysis and root-cause investigations when measurements diverge from predictions, establishing uncertainty bounds and traceable model records that turn unexpected results into new insight.
- Shape decisions on a first-of-its-kind technology. Deliver technical notes, figures, and design-review material that directly inform architecture and prototype choices. Your analysis will drive what gets built, not sit in a drawer.
- Own meaningful work from day one. Take ownership of well-bounded analysis tasks on a small multidisciplinary team, keeping models, scripts, inputs, and results reproducible and communicating confidence, limitations, and next steps with clarity.

Nice to Have
~1 min read- Experience with COMSOL Multiphysics Plasma Module
- Experience modeling antennas, RF structures, plasmas, resonators, high-voltage fields, or coupled multiphysics systems.
- Strong fundamental knowledge of low-temperature RF glow discharge physics.
- Familiarity with S-parameters, impedance matching, radiation patterns, meshing, solver convergence, uncertainty, and model validation.
- Ability to assess model quality through convergence, sensitivity, validation, and careful documentation of assumptions.
- Ability to translate analysis into concise findings and actionable design recommendations.
- Strong initiative, intellectual honesty, and comfort working on open-ended technical problems.
