The Regional Center of the East Bay (RCEB) is seeking committed individuals to serve on its Board of Directors. Board service is an honorary, volunteer role providing governance and oversight to support individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDDs) and their families in Alameda and Contra Costa Counties.
Reasonable accommodations are provided, especially to RCEB clients serving on the Board.
- Monthly Board Meetings: Virtual public meetings 4th Monday each month (except July, August, & Dec), 7 – 9 p.m.
- Committee Service: Serve on at least one Board committee as chair/co-chair.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Promote RCEB’s mission by bring a self-advocate, family or professional perspective to decision making.
- →Act in the best interests of individuals served and their families (i.e. rights, inclusion, self-determination).
- →Provide governance and oversight under the RCEB Bylaws and the Lanterman Act.
- →Participate meaningfully to add value at board and committee meetings and in discussions via email. Strategically planning, monitor progress toward organizational goals and oversee budget, financials.
- Individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities (self-advocates). Supports provided.
- Parents, legal guardians, and family members of people with IDD.
- Professionals skilled in finance, legal, governance, management, communications, technology, etc.
Requirements

- Unafraid to ask questions and eager to learn/be trained. Reliability in attending and preparing for meetings.
- Engages with humility, patience and respect with people from diverse backgrounds including board members, self-advocates, families, providers and RCEB employees.
- RCEB programs and governance structure; Lanterman Act roles and responsibilities; Board fiduciary duties and ethics; Financial oversight; Open meeting and public participation requirements; Ongoing support and accommodations are provided, including for RCEB clients serving on the Board.
- Attend at least one (1) RCEB Board meeting.
- Submit a resume and a statement of interest describing why you wish to serve and the value you will add.
