Job Summary

The paramedic has the responsibility and accountability for assuring the delivery of interhospital and intrahospital care to patients of all ages using proper techniques and following the standards of care as established by Indiana Department of Homeland Security - EMS Division, and the Riverview Health EMS Medical Director(s). 

Job Responsibilities

  • Provide all necessary care to patients during inter-facility transport, including but not limited to: Ongoing assessment of the primary survey (i.e. ABCD), administration or maintenance of protocol-based or physician-ordered medications, cardiac and respiratory monitoring, provision of care if status deteriorates
  • Collaborate with medical director(s), Riverview Health interdisciplinary teams, and Organizational Improvement to ensure optimal patient outcomes and enhancement of the patient experience
  • Communicate effectively with patients and their families as well as other members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team
  • Complete all required documentation for transport patient care and billing purposes
  • Maintain readiness of ambulance vehicle at all times, to include sufficient medical oxygen, functioning of equipment, and stocking of supplies
  • Participate in ongoing education and performance improvement initiatives as required by state law and/or as assigned by hospital management
  • Other duties as assigned

Education Requirements

  • Minimum: Completion of state-approved and CAAHEP-accredited paramedic training program

License/Certification Requirements

Minimum: 

  • Current Paramedic licensure
  • Basic Life Support Program (BLS) Provider
  • Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) Provider
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider
  • Emergency Vehicle Operations Course (EVOC) – Must have or obtain within 6 months of hire
  • Valid Indiana Driver’s license and driving record that meets organizational requirements to drive a RVH owned vehicle

Preferred:

  • Neonatal Resuscitation Provider (NRP)
  • Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C)

Experience Requirements

Required: 

  • Two (2) years of experience as a paramedic with an ambulance service
