Railcar Mechanic / Railroad Carman

Road & Rail Services is hiring a Railcar Mechanic / Railroad Carman for our Wausau, Wisconsin operation. If you have experience in welding, fabrication, industrial maintenance, heavy equipment repair, diesel mechanics, trailer repair, manufacturing maintenance, or another hands-on mechanical trade, your skills may transfer well to this position.

As a Railcar Mechanic, you will help inspect, maintain, and repair freight railcars to keep equipment operating safely and efficiently. Responsibilities include:

Inspect railcars for mechanical defects, structural damage, wear, and fatigue

Identify repairs that can be completed within Road & Rail Services' authorized scope

Complete approved mechanical repairs according to customer requirements and applicable AAR specifications

Perform welding, cutting, grinding, fabrication, and component replacement as required

Use hand and power tools including wrenches, ratchets, pry bars, grinders, and related repair equipment

Operate company equipment such as tractors and all-terrain vehicles when authorized

Maintain a clean and safe work area

Follow all company, customer, and railroad safety procedures

Qualified candidates should have:

A strong mechanical aptitude or skilled-trade background

Welding experience is highly recommended

Experience using basic hand and power tools

Ability to work independently and as part of a repair team

Strong attention to safety and repair quality

Dependable attendance and willingness to work in an outdoor industrial environment

Valid driver's license when required to operate company equipment
