WHO WE NEED

Reporting to the Manager, Performance Programs, you will work closely with artists, performers, community arts organizations, and teams across the Museum to develop and deliver innovative programs that reflect ROM's collections, exhibitions, and broader cultural conversations. From researching creative concepts and building partnerships to coordinating live productions and managing program budgets, you will play a key role in bringing meaningful artistic experiences to diverse audiences.
This role is ideal for an experienced arts programmer or producer who combines a deep understanding of the performing arts with strong organizational skills, creative vision, and a collaborative approach. You will have the opportunity to shape participatory experiences, develop relationships across the arts community, and contribute to programming that engages audiences in new and exciting ways.
HOW YOU WILL MAKE AN IMPACT

- Research relevant cultural themes, emerging artistic practices, and audience interests to develop innovative programming concepts and formats.
- Identify, cultivate, and negotiate partnerships with diverse artists, performers, arts organizations, community collectives, and other external collaborators.
- Coordinate all aspects of approved performance programs, working across ROM departments to ensure seamless planning, production, and delivery.
- Manage assigned program budgets, negotiate performer and supplier contracts, track expenses, and contribute to attendance and revenue forecasting.
- Collaborate with Marketing, Communications, and other ROM teams to support program promotion through timely and accurate information across digital and traditional channels.
- Support the recruitment, training, scheduling, and supervision of performers and on-site program assistants to ensure successful program delivery.
- Coordinate supporting program elements, including technical services, food and beverage requirements, and collection objects or displays, while following applicable museum procedures.
- Evaluate program outcomes, attendance, audience engagement, and financial performance, providing reports and recommendations to strengthen future programming.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Minimum five (5) years of experience in arts or cultural program development, live performance production, and administration, ideally within an arts or cultural institution.
- A degree in performing arts, arts management, or a related field is an asset; a diploma in event or theatrical production planning is also considered an asset.
- Extensive knowledge of the performing arts and entertainment landscape, including diverse artistic practices, inclusive programming, audience engagement, and participatory approaches.
- Demonstrated experience developing creative program concepts, producing live performances, and collaborating with artists, community organizations, and interdisciplinary teams.
- Strong budget management and financial reporting skills, including experience negotiating contracts, managing program expenses, and supporting financial forecasts.
- Excellent organizational, project management, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to independently manage competing priorities and respond effectively to challenges during live events.
- Exceptional interpersonal, communication, and conflict resolution skills, with a strong commitment to high-quality production standards, visitor experience, and collaborative partnerships.
- Familiarity with event production requirements, including technical services, food and beverage coordination, and protocols related to live performance and public events.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications and the ability to work flexible hours, including regular evenings and weekends. Experience with social media, Adobe Photoshop or other design software, and Delphi Amadeus Sales and Catering software is an asset.
