Heavy Equipment Mechanic

We operate a landfill in Shiloh, and we're looking for a heavy equipment mechanic to help keep our fleet running well. The work splits roughly half and half: about half your time in our shop, and about half out on site with our maintenance truck, working on machines that are down. You're working on one property and on our own equipment — no driving between customers, no overnight travel, and home every night on a schedule you can plan around.

Shift: 6:00AM-8:00PM Monday-Friday

The Equipment

• Landfill compactors
• Dozers (waste-handling arrangement)
• Excavators
• Wheel loaders
• Backhoe
• Articulated haul trucks
• Water trucks and support fleet

Brands in our fleet: Cat / Volvo 

Day to Day 

• Diagnosing and repairing hydraulic, electrical, powertrain, and engine issues
• Undercarriage inspection, measurement, and replacement
• Final drive and track system work
• Preventive maintenance on a scheduled program — fluids, filters, inspections, and oil sampling
• Cooling package and radiator cleaning, which comes up often in this environment
• Welding and fabrication for repairs and guarding
• Keeping clear repair records

What We're Looking For

• Required: Hands-on experience repairing heavy equipment — dozers, excavators, loaders, or similar — with solid diagnostic ability on hydraulic and electrical systems. Comfortable working from schematics and tracing a problem to its source.
• Valid driver's license. CDL a plus
• Must be at least 19 years of age
• Legally eligible to work in the United States
• Must successfully complete pre-employment testing
• Must be able to read and speak the English language
• Preferred: Dozer and excavator experience specifically, along with undercarriage work and welding.
• Also welcome: If your background is in ag equipment, heavy truck diesel, quarry, mining, construction, or scrap-yard equipment, we'd still like to hear from you. The underlying systems carry over, and we're glad to bring you up to speed on our machines. 
• Your own hand tools. We provide specialty and diagnostic tools, plus a tool allowance.

Work Environment

Since this is a working landfill, the shop sees more mud and dust than a dealership would, and equipment often comes in needing a good cleaning before you can get to it. 

If you've spent time in a quarry, a scrap yard, a mine, or a transfer station, it will feel familiar.
