RYZ Labs is seeking a Senior Geospatial Software Engineer to help build and evolve a platform that works with complex construction and location-based data.
This role combines strong software engineering skills with practical experience handling maps, coordinates, geometry, and geospatial information. You will be involved in building the systems that transform information from construction documents into accurate, usable geographic data that can support real-world field operations.
What You'll Do
• Design, develop, and maintain production systems while contributing to technical architecture and engineering decisions.
• Build functionality around maps, geographic coordinates, spatial relationships, and geometric data.
• Develop solutions that can extract, process, validate, and transform geometry from unstructured or semi-structured documents.
• Work on functionality involving geographic measurements, distances, routing, asset locations, and other location-based calculations.
• Translate real-world geographic information into reliable data that can be visualized, measured, and used in the field.
• Handle imperfect data sources, including inconsistent formats, incomplete information, and ambiguous inputs.
• Establish approaches that prioritize data accuracy and clearly identify cases where a reliable result cannot be produced.
• Contribute to code reviews, engineering standards, testing, and continuous integration practices.
• Help improve system reliability through monitoring, observability, and safe failure mechanisms.
• Take increasing ownership of technical decisions and architectural areas as the product and engineering team grow.
What We're Looking For
• 5+ years of professional software engineering experience, with a track record of taking ownership of technical decisions and production systems.
• Strong hands-on experience with TypeScript and Node.js.
• Previous experience developing software involving GIS, mapping, coordinates, geometry, or other geospatial data.
• Practical knowledge of one or more areas such as GeoJSON, KML, GIS platforms, routing, mapping systems, fleet tracking, logistics, agriculture, drones, or location-based applications.
• Experience processing data that may be incomplete, inconsistent, noisy, or difficult to interpret.
• Strong attention to accuracy, data integrity, and system correctness, particularly when software outputs impact real-world decisions.
• Ability to reason about edge cases and design systems that behave safely when information is insufficient or uncertain.
• Strong written and spoken English communication skills.
• Comfortable working independently in a remote and distributed engineering environment.
Nice to Have
• Experience or education related to civil engineering, surveying, construction, asphalt, or estimating.
• Familiarity with construction concepts such as plans, alignments, stationing, quantities, and pay items.
• Experience working with routing, logistics, hauling, or distance calculations.
• Exposure to DOT bid packages or construction documentation.
• Familiarity with construction estimating platforms such as Bluebeam, B2W, HeavyBid, or HardDollar.
• Experience with 3D geospatial information, including terrain models, surface models, point clouds, or cut-and-fill calculations.
• Experience with technologies such as Turf.js, proj4js, PostGIS, or similar spatial libraries and databases.
What You'll Own
As you grow into the role, you will take ownership of important areas of the platform, including:
• Geospatial capabilities: how the product represents, processes, measures, and exports geographic information.
• Map and geometry workflows: transforming information extracted from documents into accurate real-world coordinates and usable geometry.
• Distance and routing functionality: supporting location-based calculations and hauling-related use cases.
• Core engineering: production code, technical design, architecture, and key engineering decisions.
• Reliability and quality: code reviews, testing, observability, monitoring, and engineering standards.
• Data correctness: ensuring the platform can distinguish between reliable results and situations where available information is insufficient.
