JOB SUMMARY:
Sagamok Anishnawbek is seeking a fluent Anishinaabemowin Speaker to join our Education Department in promoting and revitalizing Anishinaabemowin language and culture. This role supports students across various learning environments, classrooms, land-based settings, and early learning centres—by creating a rich, immersive language experience that reinforces identity, tradition, and community connection.
POSITION DUTIES:
Operational Duties (Daily):
- Support a safe, healthy, and positive learning environment for all.
- Assist in maintaining a welcoming and engaging physical classroom space.
- Follow and promote the mission, vision, and values of the assigned Education Unit.
- Provide classroom support in collaboration with teachers and administrators.
- Uphold education department policies, procedures, and standards.
- Follow the Biidaaban Kinoomaagegamik School Calendar unless otherwise directed.
Functional Responsibilities (Language & Culture Support):
- Speak Anishinaabemowin fluently throughout the school day with students and staff.
- Encourage and model the use of Anishinaabemowin in all school environments.
- Inspire student interest and pride in language and cultural teachings.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to co-plan language and cultural activities aligned with curriculum.
- Mentor staff in the use and acquisition of Anishinaabemowin.
- Engage Elders, Knowledge Keepers, and community partners in educational programming.
- Contribute to student progress reporting and resource development.
- Participate in professional development assigned by the SESSP Coordinator.
TERMS AND CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
· Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Check prior to employment.
· Strong interpersonal and motivational skills to foster student engagement.
· Must adhere to Sagamok Anishnawbek confidentiality policies.
· Subject to six-month probation period.
· Valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle required.
· Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
· CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Familiarity with community development and quality assurance practices is an asset.
