Work Structure: Hybrid (in-person & remote)

ABOUT SARSSM: Since 1973, Sexual Assault Response Services of Southern Maine (SARSSM), a nonprofit 501(c)(3)
organization, has provided free, confidential supportive services to people impacted by sexual violence, child sexual abuse, sexual harassment, and trafficking.  Our Advocacy work in Intervention, Prevention, and Engagement programs and services is impactful. Join us in this rewarding work!

POSITION OVERVIEW: The Prevention and Education Coordinator develops and implements SARSSM’s prevention education programming across Cumberland and York Counties. This role provides education and training to youth and community partners on healthy relationships, consent, and strategies to reduce sexual violence. Bilingual or multilingual skills are preferred but not required. As part of a team of Advocates, the Prevention and Education Coordinator also provides on-call coverage for SARSSM’s 24-hour helpline, providing phone support as well as in-person accompaniments for sexual assault survivors. Several duties associated with this role require frequent local travel.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Prevention Education & Community Engagement

  • Develop prevention education presentations, curricula, and digital resources (including social media).
  • Facilitate trainings and workshops for individuals of all ages and community partners.
  • Participate in statewide prevention initiatives and peer learning opportunities.
  • Represent SARSSM in prevention-focused meetings and community partnerships.
  • Coordinate and attend outreach events, awareness activities, and community engagement opportunities.
  • Evaluate prevention programming using formal and informal feedback methods.

Advocacy & Helpline Services

  • Participate in rotating on-call coverage for SARSSM's confidential 24-hour Helpline, including assigned evenings and weekends.
  • Provide trauma-informed, culturally responsive support to survivors of sexual violence, sexual harassment, and trafficking.
  • Respond to requests for accompaniment and advocacy services as assigned.

Required Qualifications

  • Degree in social work, human services, education, public health, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong facilitation, public speaking, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing to team goals.
  • Proficiency with Google Workspace, Zoom, Microsoft Office, Canva, and database or client management systems.
  • Reliable transportation and ability to travel regularly throughout Cumberland and York Counties.
  • Ability to complete SARSSM's 40-hour Sexual Assault Advocate Training and other required trainings.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in sexual violence prevention, public health education, or victim advocacy.
  • Bilingual or multilingual communication skills.
  • Experience using social media and digital communications for outreach and education.

  • Maine criminal background check
