ELEMENTARY PHYSICAL EDUCATION (PE) TEACHER

1. BA/BS in Physical Education, Health Education, Kinesiology, or related field, with 24 credit hours in the subject specialization.
2. Teacher Licensure and Endorsement in Physical Education as appropriate for New Mexico.
3. Knowledge of fiscal compliance as required P.L. 100-297, IDEA, P.L. 107-110 (NCLB).
4. Bilingual (Navajo/English) preferred.
5. Have a valid driver's license.
6. Current CPR/First Aid certification, or ability to obtain within [30/60] days of hire.

1. Knowledge of the language(s), traditions, and culture of Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc.
2. Knowledge of the physical, economic, and social environment of the Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. that is likely to affect student progress in school.
3. Knowledge of appropriate professional relationships with Native American students and parents.
4. Ability to be dependable and punctual in attendance at work.
5. Ability to understand, speak, read, and write the English language.
6. Ability to maintain harmonious interpersonal relationships on the job, with other SASI employees, students, parents, and community members.
7. Ability to determine when to refer problems and situations to a higher authority and the willingness to do so.
8. Ability to demonstrate new skills and subject areas through formal training.
9. Ability to prepare oral and written reports on the job and follow specific written instructions.
10. Experience coaching or organizing youth sports and physical activities.

8. →Agrees to support and implement the adopted physical education curriculum for use by SASI, including applicable New Mexico Physical Education Content Standards and Benchmarks.
9. →Submits daily attendance and weekly lesson plans aligned with New Mexico State Standards and Benchmarks.
10. →Works effectively as a team member in collecting and analyzing student fitness/performance data systematically through an on-going process of planning, developing, implementing, and progress monitoring to achieve established goals.
11. →Models effective classroom and activity-space management techniques and teaching strategies using a variety of instructional approaches (games, drills, fitness activities, team and individual sports) to assure that students have the opportunity to learn to their fullest potential.
12. →Implements an on-going analysis and appraisal of student progress, while maintaining accurate files and records.
13. →Administers physical fitness assessments and standardized test instruments as scheduled and assigned.
14. →Refers students for diagnostic testing, adaptive PE services, or other support as appropriate.
15. →Inspects and assures that gymnasium/field equipment and facilities are safe, properly maintained, and free from unwarranted wear and tear, damage, or safety hazards; reports needed repairs promptly.
16. →Provides for own professional growth through reading, workshops, seminars, conferences, in-services, and actively participates in trainings as scheduled by the supervisor.
17. →Participates in parent conferences and two PAC meetings per year.
18. →Participates in SASI sponsored activities, some of which may require work in the evenings/nights (e.g., field days, sports events, family fitness nights).
19. →Enforces safety rules and procedures during physical activity, including proper use of equipment and supervision of students at all times.
20. →Performs other duties as assigned.

Will be evaluated in accordance with the Shiprock Associated Schools, Inc. policies and procedures.
