The Columbia, SC office of Schnabel Engineering is seeking an Engineering Technician to join our growing practice.  We are looking for motivated candidates with attention to detail, a passion to continue to develop as a professional, and a desire to be part of a strong team.

• →Field observation and testing during placement of construction materials including soil, concrete, asphalt, masonry and reinforcing steel
• →Collect data, maintain, and troubleshoot geotechnical instrumentation
• →Collect environmental water and soil samples from monitoring wells, borings, excavations, drains, and surface water bodies
• →Perform laboratory soils and concrete testing
• →Preparation of reports documenting observations and test results
• →Communication with contractors and engineers to discuss observations and test results

• Prior experience on construction projects (minimum 2 yrs is preferred)
• Technician certification (ACI, SCDOT or AASHTO)
• 40 Hour HAZWOPER Certification or the ability to obtain in 6 months
• MSHA 24 Training or the ability to obtain in 6 months
• Excellent mathematic computational skills
• High School degree
• Valid US Driver’s License
• Possess good oral, written, communication, skills
• Candidates must be able to lift 50 - 75 pounds on an occasional basis and be physically able to negotiate construction sites, climb ladders and work outside.
• Basic Knowledge of Soil and Concrete Laboratory testing
• Ability to work independently or as part of a multidisciplinary, multi-office team
• Attention to detail and well-organized
• Strong professional work ethic and desire to perform at a high level
• Basic understanding of and ability to use of hand tools

• Ability to pass a background check which may include criminal history, motor vehicle record, and credit check
• Ability to pass a pre-employment screening

The compensation range for this position is between $16/hr to $22/hr. Compensation for this position may vary based on geographic location and other factors. We remain committed to providing competitive and equitable compensation to all employees, regardless of their location.
