Who we are:

Second Use is a community-focused business dedicated to diverting reusable building materials from the landfill and selling them to the public at an affordable cost through our retail stores.

We acquire building materials (doors, cabinets, windows, appliances, flooring, hardware, and architectural antiques) from buildings slated for remodel or demolition, as well as leftover materials from contractors and build projects. We present the salvaged materials in our Tacoma store as well as our website (seconduse.com). Store staff prep the materials for sale and help customers find materials they can use in their projects.

Our staff members share a passion for keeping good stuff from going to waste, an interest in old stuff, a strong work ethic, and general sense of humor.

What We Want:

We prefer consistent community-facing marketing strategies over a big advertising budget and have a rich history of off-the-wall events and approaches we’d love to see reimagined and reenergized by a passionate creative with a knack for community engagement and an ability to see things through from conception to completion.

In the past, we’ve hosted artisan markets, plant sales, DIY workshops, tool demonstrations, live screen printing events, art shows, design competitions, and an annual Fall Festival that includes a house-built salvaged mini golf course and unlimited free hot dogs. We’ve also tabled at community events, attended industry networking events, created outlandish staff calendars for the holidays, and maintained a newsletter, blog, and social media with consistency.

We list these not because we want someone to revitalize everything we’ve ever done, nor do we want someone to start entirely from scratch- but the ideal candidate would be excited about our creative approach, energized by ideas we have not yet explored, and astute enough to trim or retool the aspects that aren’t serving us.

Who You Are:

You’re a creative person and confident leader with a well of marketing and engagement ideas. You thrive in a role that offers variety from day-to-day and project-to-project. You’re excited to imagine and execute projects and can balance and prioritize several at a time, often collaborating with others. You embrace outside-of-the-box thinking and would rather work for a small company that allows your vision to shine than a behemoth with a huge budget and equally huge restrictions.

You have a robust creative communications and marketing toolkit and are excited to be the “voice” of Second Use. You are enthusiastic about continuing the legacy of the brand while cultivating your own approach to its programming, communications, and visual assets. You’re a holistic thinker who sees the big picture of our position in the industry, relevance to an ever-changing city, and our relationship with customers and suppliers.

  • Envision and implement a consistent “Voice” and strategy for Second Use Social Media Channels, driving engagement and excitement for the Second Use Brand, and attracting new customers and suppliers.

Requirements:

  • A creative portfolio of prior work in graphic design or similar
  • Confident and proven communication skills
  • Experience in outreach/marketing/community engagement
  • Understanding of social media management and marketing strategy
