Healthcare is complicated, but it doesn’t have to be.

500+ employees, 9 countries, and 1 mission - to amplify the voice of physicians globally.

That is where you come in. Helping unite physicians across the world to support better patient outcomes—and even save lives— is an incredible feeling. Join us!

What we’re about:

  • Community: with 20+ years of tradition and innovation, our team has built the world’s largest online community of 1.3M medical professionals and a trusted network of leading industry partners - and we’re growing every day.

  • Innovation: our tech-first approach to the conventional worlds of physician engagement and rapid healthcare insights powers our ability to improve workflows in unique ways.

  • Collaboration: making an impact in healthcare is serious work, but that doesn’t mean we can’t have a good time while we’re at it. We laugh together, we don’t take ourselves too seriously, and we’re always trying to make our customers crack a smile.

Sermo is a global social platform for physicians that fosters impactful peer-to-peer collaboration and discussions through meaningful insights, data, and trends. It is the most trusted global platform with over 800,000 fully verified and licensed physicians across 150 countries. The platform enables doctors to anonymously talk real-world medicine, review treatment options via our proprietary Drug Ratings platform, collectively solve patient cases and earn honorarium from surveys. Through Sermo’s unique community, pharmaceutical and healthcare partners can drive physician awareness and gain deep understanding of brand perceptions to benefit the medical community at large.

Summary of the job:

We are looking for a senior software engineer who works across our full stack and uses AI coding agents every day. You will own features from the database to the browser in our ASP.NET Core and React applications, working alongside a team of experienced engineers.

You will maintain and extend Sermo’s physician community and insights platforms, build new features on our roadmap, and help move our remaining internal and external applications onto these platforms. Much of that work suits AI-assisted development, and we expect you to use AI coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent to deliver it quickly while keeping quality high.

You will direct AI agents, review what they produce, and own the result. You need deep experience in one side of our stack and enough fluency in the other to review and direct work there.

 How we build with AI

  • We use AI coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent to plan, build, test, review, and document software.
  • Because agents can work in every layer, one engineer can own a feature from the database to the browser. Your job is to write clear specifications, direct the agents, and verify the result before it ships.
  • We invest in the instructions, tools, and checks that make AI-assisted work reliable, and senior engineers help build them.
  • Every change gets human review, whoever or whatever wrote it, and you own what you ship.

 Day to day tasks:

  • Own features end to end across the stack: data model, ASP.NET Core services and APIs, and the React interface, using AI agents to speed up implementation, refactoring, and test creation.
  • Build and maintain applications in a high-availability environment, with responsive and adaptive interfaces across browsers and devices.
  • Improve and maintain the shared frameworks our products are built on: the ASP.NET Core base architecture and the React component framework.
  • Turn product requirements into precise specifications and acceptance criteria that an engineer or an agent can build against.
  • Build and extend automated tests (unit, integration, and acceptance), including testing across devices, and use them to verify AI-generated code before it merges. Help QA expand their own test automation.
  • Review code and merge requests, including AI-generated changes, for correctness, security, performance, and maintainability.
  • Improve the instructions and tooling our agents rely on (for example CLAUDE.md files, scripts, and CI checks) so AI-assisted work is reliable for the whole team.
  • Make code and applications fast, secure, and reusable. Analyze performance on both the server and the client and implement improvements.
  • Work with UX and designers to improve usability and keep our graphic standards and brand consistent. Use AI to produce working prototypes that make ideas easy for the rest of the organization to evaluate.
  • Analyze feedback from users and customers so we can keep improving our offerings.
  • Help decide which technologies and processes we use.
  • Take part in standups, internal and external meetings, and the on-call rotation that keeps our systems stable.

What we expect at this level

We assess every engineer on four areas: scope, collaboration, direction, and engineering excellence. Here is what we expect of this role on each.

Scope. You take on broad, varied problems that call for decision-making and creativity. You work independently, with review at critical points, and your work affects team-level goals. You influence outcomes within your team, and you work with your manager on contributing to recruiting, onboarding, mentoring, and team culture.

Collaboration. You build productive working relationships with senior internal and external partners who may not be familiar with the subject matter. You advise teammates on important matters, actively include different perspectives, and adapt how you communicate to audiences at different leadership levels.

Direction. You look at problems from several angles before choosing a course, and you engage leaders to get buy-in for project direction. You treat risk and uncertainty as normal, and you help the team prioritize short-, mid-, and long-term goals aligned to the business.

Engineering Excellence. You lead projects with minimal guidance and complete medium-to-large features independently. You understand your codebase deeply, write well-organized code, leave it in better shape than you found it, and work with other teams on critical bugs and launches. You work with design and product to judge feasibility, check reliability and performance proactively, and build the product intuition that feeds roadmap planning.

What this looks like with AI in the loop

  • Engineering excellence includes how well you direct and verify AI-generated work across the stack: clear specifications, small reviewable changes, and tests that fail for the right reasons.
  • Direction includes deciding where AI speeds the work up and where it does not, and raising the risks (security, data handling, correctness) early.
  • Collaboration includes sharing the prompts and practices that work so other engineers can reuse them.

 Minimum requirements:

  • 7+ years developing complex web applications, with experience on both the server side and the client side.
  • Deep, current expertise in at least one side of our stack (the year counts below apply to that side), and enough proficiency in the other to review AI-generated code there and catch its mistakes:
  • Backend: C# and ASP.NET Core, MVC and API architecture, the request pipeline, and Entity Framework Core. 5+ years on the Microsoft platform.
  • Frontend: React and its core principles (the Rules of React), component-based development, and single-page applications. 3+ years of current React or similar framework experience.
  • Hands-on experience building real software with AI coding tools such as Claude Code or equivalent, at work or on your own projects. Be ready to walk us through what you shipped, how you checked it, and where you overruled the tool.
  • Thorough understanding of SQL and database concepts (PostgreSQL and/or MSSQL preferred).
  • Examples of complex work you have helped build.
  • In-depth understanding of the web development process: requirements, design, development, testing, and deployment.
  • Experience writing unit, integration, and acceptance tests and using them to verify AI-generated code.
  • A self-starter who enjoys solving technical challenges.
  • Professional proficiency in English, written and spoken. Clear writing matters more when specifications drive the work.
  • Able to manage your own time and work well both independently and as part of a team.

 Bonus skills and experience:

  • Experience configuring AI coding agents (for example CLAUDE.md files, skills, hooks, or MCP servers) or running several agents in parallel on one codebase.
  • Experience with spec-driven or acceptance-test-driven development.
  • Experience with Styled Components, Zustand or other state-management tools, and design tools such as Figma.
  • Experience with testing tools and processes such as Jest, and with Storybook.
  • Experience with Datadog.
  • Experience with AWS infrastructure and platform.
  • Experience with NoSQL databases and Solr.
  • Understanding of WCAG and/or GDPR compliance.
  • Experience developing on or for social media platforms.
  • Understanding of, and experience in, the medical industry.
