Manager, Local Government Relations

The Manager of Local Government Relations will advance Share Our Strength’s mission to end childhood hunger and poverty in America by strengthening its local government relations efforts. Working closely with the Senior Manager of Local Government Relations, the Manager will help lead the Mayors Alliance to End Childhood Hunger (Mayors Alliance), a coalition of mayors dedicated to ending child hunger through shared best practices, policy advocacy, and community-driven solutions. The Manager will also represent Share Our Strength before local elected officials and staff, and build partnerships needed to translate local leadership into meaningful policy change at the local, state, and federal levels.

• →Mayor’s Alliance Management
  • →Manages day-to-day operations of the Mayors Alliance, including onboarding new member mayors, producing newsletters and member communications, and planning virtual and in-person events and receptions
  • →Coordinates Mayors Alliance programming, including Public Policy Council meetings, briefings, and sign-on letters
  • →Supports recruitment and engagement strategies to grow Mayors Alliance membership
  • →Contributes to the management of grant opportunities available to Mayors Alliance members
• →Local Government Relations Strategy
  • →Supports tracking and analysis of trends and elections affecting local elected officials to inform Share Our Strength's government relations strategies
  • →Partners with the Senior Manager of Local Government Relations to identify opportunities to influence policy implementation and drive systems change in service of the mission
  • →Collaborates with internal teams and external stakeholders to ensure local government relations strategy is embedded across the organization's broader priorities
  • →Supports efforts to leverage relationships with mayors, city councilmembers, county commissioners, and other local officials to advance federal and state policy change
  • →Supports management of partnerships with national associations representing local elected officials.

  • →Represents Share Our Strength to external audiences through conference presentations, community events, and meetings with policymakers
  • →Partners with colleagues to advance Share Our Strength's work to be a diverse and inclusive organization and ensures this value is embedded in the organization and throughout our work.
• →Up to 30 % Travel.

• Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field preferred but not required.
  • 3-5 years of relevant experience in local government, government relations, and/or public policy change.
  • Demonstrated experience working with local elected officials and government associations
  • Interest in anti-hunger and anti-poverty issues
• Relationship & Communication Skills
  • Proven track record of building and managing effective and collaborative partnerships, both externally and internally, with the judgement and emotional intelligence to navigate challenges and sustain long-term relationships
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience presenting to high-level audiences.

  • Demonstrated ability to initiate, organize, and prioritize multiple projects, identify challenges, and develop effective strategic recommendations.
  • Detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to work independently and efficiently
