As a Float Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner at Sheppard Pratt, this role has the opportunity to work across a diverse continuum of behavioral health services on both campuses, expanding your clinical expertise while making a meaningful impact on patients of all ages.

The Float NP will collaborate with experienced multidisciplinary teams across 6 child and adolescent inpatient units, 2 child and adolescent day hospitals, 13 adult inpatient units, and 2 adult day hospitals, providing psychiatric evaluations, medication management, and treatment planning for individuals experiencing acute behavioral health challenges.

This role is ideal for a clinician who enjoys flexibility, values professional growth, and thrives in dynamic care environments.

This position includes a schedule requirement of working 10 weekends and 2 holidays annually.

What to expect:

The Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner provides direct psychiatric care through evaluation, diagnosis, and treatment, including prescribing and managing medications. Patients are treated within the hospital setting, where the nurse practitioner conducts admission assessments, develops individualized treatment plans, and provides both individual and group therapies. Working as part of a multidisciplinary team, the nurse practitioner plays a critical role in supporting stabilization, recovery, and continuity of care.

Responsibilities

→Complete psychiatric evaluations, admission physicals, and diagnostic assessments.
→Initiate and coordinate individualized treatment plans in collaboration with a multidisciplinary team.
→Prescribe and manage medications, ordering tests and adjusting treatment as needed.
→Provide individual and group therapy to support patient progress.
→Monitor patient outcomes, document care accurately, and ensure compliance with regulatory standards.
→Communicate effectively with patients, families, and staff, fostering a supportive and collaborative environment.
→Participate in quality improvement initiatives and contribute to a culture of excellence in care.
→Serve as a mentor to junior staff, modeling best practices and supporting professional growth.
