About Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School

Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School provides a high-quality Montessori education grounded in culturally inclusive principles that guide children to develop to their fullest potential academically, socially, emotionally, linguistically, and culturally. Located in the Catholic University–Brookland community of Washington, DC, the school serves diverse learners and families through authentic Montessori education and bilingual immersion programming aligned with DCPCSB and OSSE expectations.

Position Summary

Shining Stars Montessori Academy Public Charter School is seeking a passionate and dedicated Montessori Upper Elementary Guide  to join our dynamic team for the 2026–2027 school year.

The Upper Elementary Guide leads a student-centered Montessori classroom serving students in grades 4–6 and supports academic excellence, independence, inquiry, leadership, and social-emotional growth through authentic Montessori instruction and culturally responsive practices.

Essential Responsibilities

Instruction & Classroom Leadership

  • Lead an engaging Montessori Upper Elementary classroom aligned with Montessori philosophy 
  • Deliver individualized, small-group, and interdisciplinary instruction that promotes inquiry, collaboration, and critical thinking.
  • Maintain a prepared Montessori environment that supports independence and student leadership.
  • Monitor student progress using observation, assessment data, and record-keeping systems aligned with OSSE and school requirements.
  • Support executive functioning, social-emotional development, and peaceful conflict resolution.

Collaboration & School Community

  • Collaborate with interventionists, specialists, colleagues, and school leadership to support all learners.
  • Participate in staff meetings, school events, professional learning, and required compliance trainings.
  • Maintain accurate attendance, documentation, and family communication records.
  • Uphold all school policies related to student safety, confidentiality, and professional conduct.

Family & Community Engagement

  • Build positive partnerships with families through conferences, progress reports, and regular communication.
  • Support family understanding of Montessori adolescent development and bilingual immersion learning.
  • Participate in school-wide events and community outreach activities.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Montessori Elementary Credential (AMI, AMS, or MACTE-accredited equivalent)
  • Strong organizational, communication, and collaboration skills
  • Commitment to equitable and inclusive educational practices
  • Eligibility to work in the United States

Preferred

  • Master’s Degree
  • Two or more years of Montessori teaching experience at the E2 (Elementary) level
  • Experience in public charter or urban school settings
  • Familiarity with DCPCSB ASPIRE and OSSE expectations
