~4 min readThe Planning General Foreman leads Mine Operations participation in the Three-Month Rolling Plan (3MR) and owns the operational integration of the weekly planning cycle for production, development, sublevel extraction (SLE), raisebore, and diamond drilling activities. The role consolidates operating inputs, verifies workplace readiness, challenges schedule assumptions, secures resource commitments, controls the released planning record, and completes the formal handoff of an approved, executable plan to Operations.
The Planning General Foreman of Mine Operations' primary duties are:
- →Champion Group Minimum Standards, critical-control verification, lifesaving behaviors, and effective management routines through visible underground field engagement, crew interaction, recognition of compliant behavior, and immediate correction of deficiencies.
- →Verify planning assumptions through regular underground field presence, planned work walkdowns, engagement with Supervisors and technical personnel, and comparison of actual conditions with designs, schedules, and readiness status.
- →Ensure investigations, audits, inspections, corrective actions, qualifications, and retraining are completed accurately and on time with accountable owners, due dates, evidence of completion, and escalation of overdue or ineffective actions.
- →Coordinate operational inputs from General Foremen, Supervisors, and support functions covering access, work methods, labor, equipment, materials, services, qualifications, shift logic, and expected capacity.
- →Validate labor assumptions, work methods, durations, readiness, qualifications, and support requirements with frontline and technical subject matter experts, documenting challenges, commitments, owners, and need dates.
- →Coordinate follow-up on cross-functional commitments without assuming functional ownership and escalate overdue, incomplete, or ineffective actions through established management routines.
- →Lead Mine Operations participation in the rolling 3MR and weekly planning cycle, ensuring priorities, workplace status, production and development requirements, rollover work, and known execution risks are reflected.
- →Lead and integrate operational planning for sublevel extraction (SLE), raisebore, and diamond drilling activities, including sequencing, workplace readiness, access, technical inputs, contractor interfaces, labor, equipment, materials, services, and schedule dependencies.
- →Launch the weekly cycle, confirm input cutoffs, consolidate operational status and constraints, and maintain integrated input, constraint, commitment, and decision registers.
- →Compare planned and actual resource use and cost with accountable leaders, identify operational causes of significant variance, and incorporate agreed recovery actions or revised assumptions into current forecasts and subsequent planning cycles.
- →Support resource tradeoff decisions by communicating impacts without committing crews, equipment, materials, maintenance capacity, or support resources on behalf of accountable owners.
- →Maintain the execution view of the Weekly Plan, hot list, 24-hour commitments, 3MR execution forecast, and escalation log using agreed data cutoffs and approved sources.
- →Complete the daily execution update by consolidating plan versus actual results, hot list status, missed or deferred work, break-in work, current constraints, execution causes, and recovery actions using the agreed reporting cutoff.
- →Consolidate and validate operational actuals, missed or deferred work, break-in work, delay information, execution causes, and recovery actions provided by General Foremen and Supervisors.
- →Control the planning record for approved changes and ensure no material change to released work occurs without appropriate operational and technical review, authorization, and version update.
- →Other duties as assigned
Qualifications and Skills:
- →Leadership skills sufficient to direct work through frontline Supervisors, establish accountability, coach performance, manage conflict, and sustain consistent standards across shifts.
- →Planning and organizational ability sufficient to manage multiple time horizons, prioritize and sequence interdependent work, anticipate constraints, allocate resources, and adjust plans while maintaining alignment with operating objectives.
- →Clear oral and written communication skills sufficient to direct work, facilitate planning reviews, explain technical or operational issues, conduct performance discussions, and prepare concise plans and reports.
- →Interpersonal skill sufficient to build cooperative relationships, influence across functions, engage frontline and technical expertise, negotiate commitments, and resolve disagreement professionally.
- →Digital literacy sufficient to use company-authorized mine planning, production reporting, work management, spreadsheet, document, presentation, and communication systems.
- →Ability to regularly travel underground, access active work areas, observe conditions and work practices, communicate in operating environments, and alternate between field and office-based work.
Education & Experience:
- →High school diploma or equivalent
- →Seven years of progressively responsible experience in underground production, development, mine support, or closely related mine operations, including at least three years leading mining employees as a frontline Supervisor or in a higher-level operating leadership role.
- →Experience contributing to shift, weekly, or short-range planning at a frontline leadership or operational level, including providing work status and resource inputs, identifying readiness needs and constraints, coordinating commitments, and reviewing plan versus actual performance.
- →Associate or bachelor's degree in mining, mine engineering, engineering technology, operations management, occupational safety, business with substantial mining-operations experience, or a related field preferred.
