Overview
SimTech, Inc., recognized as one of the 2026 Best Places for Working Parents, is seeking a Systems Administrator, Mid-Level to join our corporate team in Huntsville, AL.
This role will support the administration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Windows and Linux systems while providing responsive helpdesk support. This position supports servers, workstations, user accounts, business applications, and network connectivity to maintain reliable and secure IT operations. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on Linux experience, strong troubleshooting skills, and a customer-focused approach to supporting employees and technical teams.

Responsibilities
Install, configure, administer, and maintain Windows and Linux servers and workstations, including Ubuntu or similar Linux distributions.
Provide helpdesk support for hardware, software, operating systems, account access, email, printers, and network connectivity; prioritize requests, document resolutions, and communicate status to users.
Troubleshoot Linux systems using command-line tools, system logs, and diagnostic utilities; manage user accounts, permissions, packages, services, and routine updates.
Administer Windows Server and Active Directory functions, including user accounts, security groups, permissions, Group Policy, and system monitoring.
Support Microsoft 365 services, including Outlook, Teams, SharePoint, licensing, and user access.
Coordinate employee onboarding and offboarding activities, including account provisioning, access changes, workstation setup, software installation, and basic user training.
Perform system imaging, deployments, patching, upgrades, backups, and restoration activities in accordance with established procedures.
Monitor system health and performance, investigate issues, and recommend improvements to system reliability and support processes.
Troubleshoot network connectivity and remote access issues involving TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, VPNs, switches, and firewalls; coordinate complex issues with appropriate IT personnel.
Support cybersecurity activities, including vulnerability scanning, remediation, system hardening, access controls, and compliance documentation.
Support applications used by business, engineering, and manufacturing teams.
Maintain accurate system documentation, configuration records, asset inventories, support procedures, and helpdesk notes.
Work with IT staff, cybersecurity personnel, vendors, and end users to resolve issues and support system changes; escalate complex or high-impact problems as appropriate.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications & Education Requirements and Desired Skillsets Required
Associate degree in Information Technology, Networking, or a related technical field preferred; equivalent relevant education, training, and experience considered.
At least five years of relevant experience in systems administration or IT support, including hands-on responsibility for Linux systems and end-user support. Seven or more years preferred.
Experience installing, configuring, maintaining, and troubleshooting Linux operating systems, preferably Ubuntu or a comparable distribution.
Working knowledge of Windows desktop operating systems, Windows Server, Active Directory, and Microsoft 365.
Experience troubleshooting hardware, software, peripherals, user access, and network connectivity issues.
Understanding of networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, and VPN connectivity.
Familiarity with system patching, backups, access controls, secure configurations, and basic cybersecurity practices.
Strong analytical, organizational, and customer service skills, with the ability to manage competing priorities and communicate technical information clearly.
Ability to work independently within established procedures and collaborate with IT staff and technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or a related technical discipline.
CompTIA Linux+ or Security+ certification is a plus.
Familiarity with Bash or PowerShell scripting to automate routine administrative tasks.
Experience supporting manufacturing operations and technical teams.
U.S. Citizenship with Active Secret Security clearance and ability to maintain required clearance.
Work Environment & Expectations
Employees in these roles will work in a typical office environment, utilizing standard office equipment such as computers, phones, printers, and video conferencing tools. Responsibilities include regular use of computer software, engaging with diverse personnel, participating in meetings, and contributing to team objectives by delivering timely outcomes and generating reports. Key duties involve effectively receiving and communicating information.
The role may allow for occasional telework and may require flexible shifts or hours to meet organizational needs and business demands. Periodic travel may also be necessary to support assigned tasks.
