Magento SEO / Listing Specialist

Sourcing location: LATAM
Salary: $2500 - $3000

The management of our website product catalog has grown into a dedicated full-time function that requires ownership across product content, Magento administration, SEO, merchandising, promotions, and Searchspring. The best long-term solution would be to establish a dedicated Magento SEO / Listing Specialist within the Marketing department.

Role Purpose

This position would own the accuracy, presentation, discoverability, merchandising, launch, maintenance, and lifecycle of the product catalog across our websites.

This is broader than a Magento administrator or SEO specialist. The role requires someone who can understand our products and customers, gather information from multiple internal sources, create strong customer-facing content, and make informed merchandising decisions.

Primary Responsibilities

Product & Catalog Management

  • Create and maintain Magento product listings.
  • Gather product information, images, manuals, specifications, pricing, and other required assets.
  • Write accurate, customer-friendly, SEO-conscious product content.
  • Create and maintain product attributes, related products, cross-sells, add-ons, and site-specific configurations.
  • Manage UPC creation and documentation.
  • Maintain backorders, discontinued products, archived products, redirects, and URL rewrites.
  • Coordinate product components and bundling requirements with Odoo.

Category & Website Merchandising

  • Create and maintain category and promotional landing pages.
  • Determine appropriate product placement and merchandising within categories.
  • Build and maintain Searchspring sorting, boost, pinning, indexing, and merchandising rules.
  • Expand the use of Searchspring beyond the functionality currently being utilized.

Promotions & Sales

  • Execute large seasonal and trade-show sales involving hundreds of products and numerous categories.
  • Manage sale pricing, category placement, landing pages, merchandising, and post-sale cleanup.

SEO & Content Quality

  • Apply strong on-page SEO practices to product and category content.
  • Maintain metadata, internal linking, content structure, and search-friendly landing pages.
  • Use AI and other tools to improve efficiency while maintaining human review and factual accuracy.

Most Important Qualifications

Magento and SEO experience are valuable, but the most important requirement is ownership and attention to detail.

The person must be willing to learn the product catalog, understand the intended customer, and actively seek information when something is unclear rather than guessing.

The ideal candidate would have:

  • E-commerce catalog and digital merchandising experience.
  • Strong SEO knowledge.
  • Excellent writing and editing skills.
  • Magento 2 experience.
  • Working knowledge of HTML and basic CSS.
  • Good spreadsheet skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and quality control.
  • Ability to learn complex product categories.
  • Willingness to communicate with Product Development, Sales, eChannel, Marketing, and other internal resources to obtain accurate information.

Searchspring, our internal Magento processes, GS1, Odoo workflows, and detailed product knowledge can be taught.

Why an Internal Owner Is Important

Product knowledge is essential for determining what claims are accurate, how products should be positioned, what accessories belong together, which items should receive merchandising priority, and how the different websites should present the catalog.

An outside SEO resource can still be useful for audits, strategy, or specialized projects, but the day-to-day ownership of the catalog should reside internally with someone who develops substantial knowledge of the products and business.

Organizational Structure

The recommended position would report to Marketing and own the website catalog and merchandising function.

The role should work closely with:

  • Product Development for new-product information.
  • eChannel for shared product content and pricing coordination.
  • Sales for product knowledge and customer insights.
  • Developers for technical Magento issues.
  • Graphic resources when new imagery or supporting assets are needed.

The objective is to create a clear ownership structure:

Marketing owns the website catalog and merchandising function; eChannel owns marketplace execution; both functions communicate where product information, content, pricing, and strategy overlap.

Transition

Because the catalog contains significant institutional knowledge and customized workflows, ownership would need to transition gradually.

A new hire would first learn the catalog, Magento structure, website differences, Searchspring, promotional processes, and internal workflows. They would then begin executing work with review before progressing to independent ownership.

The desired end state is a dedicated internal owner who can independently manage new products, existing catalog maintenance, SEO, categories, promotions, landing pages, and Searchspring, with other department leaders involved only when their specific expertise or input is required.
