The Sensor Development team designs, builds, and tests innovative sensing solutions that are critical to making life on Mars possible. This Senior Sensor Development Engineer will work on this highly interdisciplinary team to characterize navigation sensors, such as accelerometers and gyroscopes, and develop and maintain integrated solutions.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Conduct environmental characterization or inertial sensors (accelerometers and gyroscopes) to ensure all performance and flight-worthiness requirements are met.
- →Analyze test data and document results.
- →Develop sensor calibration processes.
- →Ensure timely production and delivery for vehicle integration.
- →Conduct component qualification testing.
- →Identify and implement hardware and software upgrades.
Requirements
~2 min read- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or Physics with 5+ years of professional experience.
- 3+ years of experience working on inertial sensors.
- Software development experience in Python and C/C++.
- Knowledge of various sensing technologies available and experience in testing, calibrating, and qualifying inertial navigation sensors.
- Familiarity with environmental testing (thermal, vibration, shock).
- Master of Science in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering or Physics
- 5+ years of experience working on inertial sensors.
- Extensive knowledge of navigation-grade inertial sensors (gyroscopes, accelerometers) from design through test.
- Excellent documentation and communication skills.
- Proven track record of successful product ownership and teamwork in fast-paced environments.
- Must be able to work extended hours and/or weekends as needed.
- To conform to U.S. Government export regulations, applicant must be a (i) U.S. citizen or national, (ii) U.S. lawful, permanent resident (aka green card holder), (iii) Refugee under 8 U.S.C. § 1157, or (iv) Asylee under 8 U.S.C. § 1158, or be eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
