Bank Respiratory Physiologist

Spire Bushey Hospital forms part of a 4 site portfolio, and is supported by and works alongside Spire Bushey Diagnostic Centre, Elstree Cancer Centre and Spire Pathology Centre – based on Centennial Park in Elstree - just 5 minutes from the main hospital site.

As a Respiratory Physiologist, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive respiratory diagnostic service, including:

• →Performing and interpreting a full range of routine respiratory investigations.
• →Conducting Full Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) including: 
  • →Slow Spirometry
  • →Forced Spirometry
  • →Gas Transfer Testing (DLCO)
  • →Body Plethysmography (Body Box)
  • →Respiratory Muscle Strength Testing (MIP/MEP and SNIP)
  • →Bronchodilator Reversibility Testing
  • →Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) Testing
  • →Six Minute Walk Tests
• →Assessing patients and obtaining relevant clinical information to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
• →Explaining procedures clearly to patients, obtaining informed consent and providing reassurance throughout the investigation process.
• →Monitoring patient wellbeing during diagnostic procedures and responding appropriately to any complications or concerns.
• →Interpreting and documenting test results accurately, communicating significant findings to the wider clinical team as required.
• →Maintaining accurate patient records in line with departmental, clinical and regulatory requirements.
• →Ensuring all respiratory diagnostic equipment is maintained, calibrated, quality assured and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
• →Supporting the continuous development of respiratory services through quality improvement initiatives and service enhancements.
• →Working collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
• →Promoting best practice, patient safety, equality and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.

• BTEC Ordinary National Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (or equivalent qualification). 
• Previous experience working as a Respiratory or Clinical Physiologist. 
• Competent in performing and interpreting a broad range of respiratory diagnostic investigations. 
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-centred approach. 
• Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively. 
• Awareness of relevant professional standards, health and safety requirements and infection prevention practices. 
• IT literate and comfortable using clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications.
