Spire Bushey Hospital forms part of a 4 site portfolio, and is supported by and works alongside Spire Bushey Diagnostic Centre, Elstree Cancer Centre and Spire Pathology Centre – based on Centennial Park in Elstree - just 5 minutes from the main hospital site.
Responsibilities
~1 min readAs a Respiratory Physiologist, you will be responsible for delivering a comprehensive respiratory diagnostic service, including:
- →Performing and interpreting a full range of routine respiratory investigations.
- →Conducting Full Pulmonary Function Tests (PFTs) including:
- →Slow Spirometry
- →Forced Spirometry
- →Gas Transfer Testing (DLCO)
- →Body Plethysmography (Body Box)
- →Respiratory Muscle Strength Testing (MIP/MEP and SNIP)
- →Bronchodilator Reversibility Testing
- →Fractional Exhaled Nitric Oxide (FeNO) Testing
- →Six Minute Walk Tests
- →Assessing patients and obtaining relevant clinical information to support diagnosis and treatment planning.
- →Explaining procedures clearly to patients, obtaining informed consent and providing reassurance throughout the investigation process.
- →Monitoring patient wellbeing during diagnostic procedures and responding appropriately to any complications or concerns.
- →Interpreting and documenting test results accurately, communicating significant findings to the wider clinical team as required.
- →Maintaining accurate patient records in line with departmental, clinical and regulatory requirements.
- →Ensuring all respiratory diagnostic equipment is maintained, calibrated, quality assured and compliant with infection prevention and control standards.
- →Supporting the continuous development of respiratory services through quality improvement initiatives and service enhancements.
- →Working collaboratively with consultants, nursing teams and multidisciplinary colleagues to deliver excellent patient outcomes.
- →Promoting best practice, patient safety, equality and dignity in all aspects of care delivery.
- BTEC Ordinary National Certificate in Medical Physics and Physiological Measurement (or equivalent qualification).
- Previous experience working as a Respiratory or Clinical Physiologist.
- Competent in performing and interpreting a broad range of respiratory diagnostic investigations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with a compassionate and patient-centred approach.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage a varied caseload effectively.
- Awareness of relevant professional standards, health and safety requirements and infection prevention practices.
- IT literate and comfortable using clinical systems and Microsoft Office applications.
