Overview Of Responsibilities

The president and CEO provides strategic leadership to ensure Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa fulfills its mission to provide nutritious meals, wellness checks, and caring contact to the elderly, disabled homebound, and others in Tulsa and surrounding areas.
The president and CEO will lead all facets of the organization, including community engagement, operations, fundraising, staff and volunteer management, financial stewardship, and other duties and goals assigned by the Board of Directors.

Key Responsibilities & Essential Functions

Strategic Leadership
  • Build and lead high-performing teams that are aligned and working collaboratively to achieve organizational goals.
  • Assess organizational capacity to implement strategies and identify gaps in systems and staffing.
  • Directly supervise Senior Leadership positions and establish individual goals and expectations.
  • Foster a supportive, communicative and positive work environment. 
  • Motivate staff to achieve organizational goals by developing and implementing strategies that encourage a high-performing work culture. 
  • Create an empowering work environment where team members are encouraged to take ownership, make decisions and contribute to the overall success of the organization. 
  • Ensure Meals on Wheels activities are coordinated and aligned with the organization’s strategic plan.

External Relations
  • Serve as a visible leader for Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa and strengthen the organization’s presence, influence and impact in the community.
  • Work closely with the Board of Directors and Advisory Council to grow the awareness of the organization and the increasing need for support for its mission.
  • Establish and build relationships with key community leaders, including those representing the business, government and nonprofit sectors.
  • Build trust in Meals on Wheels and protect and strengthen the organization’s reputation in the community.

Resource Development
In partnership with the director of development, the president and CEO will:
  • Drive key fundraising results to support the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
  • Identify, cultivate and solicit prospective donors and key leaders of prospective corporate partners.
  • Leverage personal and professional contacts and relationships to create fundraising opportunities.

Fiscal Responsibility
  • Maintain accountability and transparency for the fiscal integrity of the organization within policies established by the Board of Directors.
  • Manage organizational spending and monitor compliance with the approved budget.
  • Understand and monitor the organization’s financial position and the financial resources necessary to support operations and strategic priorities.
  • Review and understand financial statements and use financial information to inform organizational decision-making.
  • Identify and mitigate financial risks.

Education & Experience
 
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • Training, experience or an advanced degree in business, public administration or nonprofit administration preferred.
  • Seven to 10 years of senior strategic leadership experience required; three years in a key leadership role may substitute for an advanced degree.
  • Substantial experience working in the nonprofit sector and interacting with volunteers and diverse boards, and/or extensive senior strategic leadership experience in the management of organizations of comparable size and mission.
  • Experience in developing partnerships, building teams and managing conflict.
  • Experience in building revenue and increasing philanthropic support.
  • Demonstrated business and financial acumen, including the ability to understand financial statements and connect financial and operational considerations to organizational decision-making.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Business Acumen: Possesses broad business and management skills and understands the financial and operational considerations necessary to sustain the organization and fulfill its mission.
  • Network-Oriented: Values the power of networks and leverages Meals on Wheels of Metro Tulsa’s community presence, relationships and partnerships to advance its mission.
  • Revenue & Growth-Oriented: Identifies and pursues opportunities to diversify revenue, build and strengthen strategic partnerships, expand the organization’s reach and services, and create sustainable growth in support of the mission.
