Stand Together is a philanthropic community that helps America’s boldest changemakers tackle the root causes of our country’s biggest problems, from education to the economy, broken communities, and toxic division, among dozens of other pressing issues. We provide our partners with access to resources including funding, thought leadership, a network of peers, and a playbook for applying proven principles to transform lives and society.

Stand Together Foundation seeks a Narrative Coach who will provide communications subject matter expertise to support Catalyst partners, a network of national nonprofit organizations.  This coach will help our nonprofit partners explore and articulate narratives that showcase principles in action, and they'll have a particular focus on adapting narrative work that's been done to different kinds of delivery (writing op-eds, delivering keynote remarks, serving on a panel, being a guest on a podcast).

The Narrative Coach will support nonprofit leaders to move from reciting what their organization does to successfully telling a story that moves a donor, a partner, or their own team. A successful Narrative Coach will work directly with nonprofit leaders to surface and own their narrative, then help them carry that narrative into external-facing material.

This is an ideal position for a communications professional with a background in marketing and communications who enjoys helping leaders uncover, refine, and confidently deliver narratives that showcase principles in action across a variety of formats and audiences.

Remote candidates will be considered on a case by case basis.

  • Coach & Advise Nonprofit Leaders: Build high-trust relationships with founders, leaders, and spokespeople. Help them find, refine, and confidently deliver their organizational and personal narrative.
  •  Adapt Narrative to Delivery Format: Take narrative work that's already been developed and help leaders carry it into new formats (op-eds, keynote remarks, panels, podcast appearances) so the story lands regardless of the format.
  • Build the System, Not Just the Sessions: Contribute to formalizing narrative coaching methodology (playbooks, repeatable frameworks), so this capability scales beyond any one coach.
  • Contribute to Strategy and Continuous Improvement: Synthesize patterns across engagements to identify where narrative gaps are limiting a leader's growth, funding, or partnerships.
  • Manage a Portfolio of Coaching Engagements: Support multiple nonprofit leaders and organizations simultaneously while maintaining high levels of responsiveness, organization, preparation, and follow-through. Balance competing priorities and varying partner needs while delivering an exceptional coaching experience.
  •
  • 5+ years in coaching, leadership development, or communications with direct, hands-on narrative/storytelling work
  • Prior operating experience in marketing or communications (agency, brand, or nonprofit comms)
  • Strong diagnostic capability: can identify why a leader's story isn't landing and knows how to improve it to maximize results
  • Outstanding listening, relationship-building, and interpersonal skills with the ability to establish trust and deliver candid feedback with empathy
  • Ability to operate effectively in ambiguous, evolving environments
  • Comfortable holding both a coaching relationship and an external-facing deliverable in the same engagement
  • Enthusiasm to contribute to Stand Together's vision and principled approach to solving problems, and a commitment to stewarding our culture, which champions values including transformation and innovation, entrepreneurialism, humility, and respect.
  •

  • Track record of building narrative or comms tools/frameworks that scale beyond individual engagements
  • Experience coaching founder-led, mission-driven, or high-autonomy organizations
