Director of Security

The Director of Security is responsible for overseeing all aspects of the Security Management, Emergency Management, Buildings/Grounds and Transportation programs for Saint Joseph’s Medical Center.  As a member of the management and support services team, overseeing internal and external security functions for SJMC.

Duties and Responsibilities

• Identify strategies and assist in the development and implementation of programs and training that focuses on personal protection, workplace violence, loss prevention, customer service, crime awareness/prevention and emergency management and disaster recovery.
• Provide support, resources and assistance to staff, visitors and patients on matters involving security.
• Deal appropriately with crisis situations and coordinate appropriate response actions.
• Work closely with external agencies such as local fire, police, and other regulatory agencies that support the needs of the security department and hospital.
• Provide education and in-house training for security staff members through orientation and ongoing informational sessions.
• Lead or assist team members during incident responses to security incidents within the hospital. 
• Interview and hire prospective new employees and work closely with Administration and Human Resources regarding disciplinary actions for both union and non-union employees.
• Review and recommend possible upgrades to physical security devices.
• Reviews all security related policies and procedures for compliance with current federal and state standards and regulations and develops new policies or revisions as necessary.
• Advises and consults with other department heads on ways and means to reduce or prevent thefts and property loss incidents using security measures and tools available.

Qualifications/Education Requirements

• Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent related experience. Criminal Justice Major preferred
• 3-5 years appropriate previous experience

License Requirements

• Valid NYS Armed Security Guard License
• Valid NYS unrestricted (full carry) firearm license
• BLS Certification

Salary Range: $125K-$155K
