Survey Technicians are entry-to-mid-level field roles focused on learning the surveying trade while actively contributing to project success. Through a structured training path (Survey Academy), technicians progress from basic support {Level I) to proficient independent work {Level II) to advanced/lead responsibilities {Level Ill). These roles build the foundation for future licensing, Party Chief positions, and long-term leadership careers at Sundt. Every technician follows a clear competency-based progression with hands-on experience, formal training, and mentorship.
Responsibilities

2. Follow structured training curriculum and complete competency assessments to advance through levels.
3. Level II (Proficient): Independently perform routine layout, topographic surveys, and as-built collection with minimal oversight; operate robotic total stations and GNSS equipment proficiently; mentor Level I technicians.
4. Maintain accurate field notes, data integrity, and equipment care; adhere to all safety and quality standards.
5. Participate in Survey Academy classes, e-learning, and on-the-job training to build skills toward future PLS licensure and leadership roles.
6. Support project teams by delivering reliable, timely survey assistance that keeps construction on schedule.
Requirements

2. Eagerness to learn, strong work ethic, and commitment to safety and quality.
3. Familiarity with basic surveying tools and willingness to obtain certifications (CST, OSHA, etc.).
4. For higher levels: proven technical skills, mentoring ability, and independent problem-solving.
5. Good communication and teamwork skills; ability to take direction and work collaboratively.
6. High school diploma or equivalent required; associate or bachelor's degree in surveying, geomatics, civil engineering technology, or construction management preferred for accelerated progression.
7. Level II: 2-4 years’ experience or equivalent training; CST Level I or II certification preferred.
8. Long-term interest in building a professional surveying career with path to licensure and leadership.
9. Physical fitness and stamina for demanding field work; reliable and punctual.
10. Valid driver's license; ability to lift equipment (up to 50 lbs) and work in all weather conditions.

1. Ability to wear personal protective equipment is required (including but not limited to; steel-toed shoes, gloves, safety glasses, hearing protection, hardhat, vest, etc.)
2. May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist on a frequent basis
3. May stoop, kneel, or bend, on an occasional basis.
4. May use telephone, computer system, email, or other electronic devices to communicate with internal and external customers or vendors.
5. Must be able to comply with all safety standards and procedures.
6. Occasionally will climb stairs, ladders, etc.
7. Required to use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects on a frequent basis.
8. Will interact with people frequently during a shift/workday.
9. Will lift, push or pull objects up to 50Ibs on an occasional basis.
10. Will sit, stand or walk short distances for up to the entire duration of a shift/workday.
11. Will work various shifts, including swing, night and weekend.
