The Vice President of Insurance and Risk Management provides strategic direction for the enterprise - to Executive Leadership and for the entire risk management function. This person will guide insurance structure and strategy, lead placement, manage cost containment and reserves and make the most effective use of company assets for risk management purposes. This includes the consideration and potential implementation of risk-spreading structures - such as self-insured retentions, large-deductible and retrospective-rating programs, controlled insurance (wrap-up) programs, aggregate stop-loss protection, parametric covers, captive or cell arrangements and/or fronting policies. This is a build-and-own leadership role, not a program-administration role. The Vice President owns the strategy, the market relationships and the performance of the entire insurance and risk-financing program.

1.    Assess and recommend to Executive Leadership on the most effective use of company assets for risk, among the several risk-spreading structures.
2.    Builds, leads and scales the Insurance and Risk Management department across claims management, business-group-aligned insurance administration and systems and analytics. This is a unique opportunity to build and scale a team to a level that supports a multi-billion general contractor.
3.    Develop the business-group-aligned insurance administration model in place so each operating group has a single, knowledgeable point of contact.
4.    Evaluates the department's structure and staffing against workload and delivers recommendations to Executive Leadership.
5.    Leads the annual renewal end to end - strategy, marketing, negotiation of terms and premiums and final outcome.
6.    Leads the next annual insurance renewal.
7.    Manages cost containment and total cost of risk and oversees reserve management and claim settlement within delegated authority. (Ultimate settlement and reserve authority resides with the General Counsel.)
8.    Reports risk exposure and program performance to senior executives and the board.
9.    Serves as the point of contact for the insurance broker and the surety broker and directs carrier strategy and market approach.
10.    Sets the structure and evolution of the company's insurance and risk-financing program and advises Executive Leadership on self-insurance and other program alternatives.
