SunEnergy1 is seeking an experienced Substation Engineering Manager to lead engineering and design activities for substation projects supporting utility-scale solar, battery energy storage systems (BESS), and related power infrastructure. This individual will oversee technical design, engineering consultants, equipment specifications, and coordination with procurement, construction, and project management teams.
Responsibilities
~1 min read- →Lead substation engineering and design activities across multiple projects.
- →Oversee electrical one-line diagrams, physical layouts, grounding, protection and control systems, and equipment specifications.
- →Manage external engineering consultants and review designs for quality, constructability, cost, and compliance.
- →Coordinate with utilities, vendors, procurement, and project teams to ensure technical requirements and schedules are met.
- →Support equipment procurement, construction, testing, commissioning, and resolution of field engineering issues.
- →Establish engineering standards, quality-control procedures, and design practices.
- →Mentor engineering personnel and drive continuous improvement in engineering execution.
Requirements
~1 min read- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related discipline.
- 8+ years of electrical engineering experience, including significant substation engineering and design experience.
- Experience leading engineering teams, consultants, or multidisciplinary project activities.
- Strong knowledge of medium- and high-voltage substations, protection and control, grounding, and electrical equipment.
- Experience with utility, transmission, power generation, or renewable energy projects.
- Familiarity with applicable IEEE/ANSI standards, NEC, NESC, and utility requirements.
- Strong project management, communication, and problem-solving skills.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license.
- Experience with utility-scale solar, BESS, or EPC projects.
- Experience with substations ranging from 34.5 kV to 500 kV.
- Familiarity with SCADA, protective relays, and substation automation.
