Sunwealth is a clean energy investment firm on a mission to change who benefits from renewable energy by changing the way we invest in it. We envision a future where renewable energy is accessible, affordable and inclusive. We invest in that future by financing and managing renewable energy projects that benefit diverse communities through clean power, carbon reduction, cost savings and job creation.

Sunwealth offices are located in Cambridge’s Porter Square and New York City’s Financial District. We work on a hybrid schedule, ideally three (3) days per week in one of these offices.

Sunwealth Power is hiring an experienced Senior Associate / Manager to be the modeling and capital-flow engine of its Project Finance and Accounting operations. This person builds project-level and portfolio financial models from scratch, manages accurate capital allocation across the portfolio, and supports debt refinancing, funding draws, and tax equity deals for an 850+ project solar portfolio.

The role supports large financings with modeling and analysis. It works daily with Project Development, Investor Development, Asset Management, and Accounting, and suits someone who has already done this work at a solar developer, owner, lender, or tax equity investor and can operate with little supervision. This person is the hands-on Project Finance resource within the Project Finance and Accounting team: they do the work and bring a clear recommendation and the reasoning behind it, so decision-makers can decide soundly.

If you thrive in a collaborative, entrepreneurial and results-driven environment and are looking to join a team motivated to create economic and environmental impact across all communities, we want to hear from you.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Capital structuring and allocation (core to the role)

  • Own capital structuring and allocation across the portfolio, including: allocating incoming capital to specific projects/portfolios, maintaining alignment with corporate goals and investor requirements.
  • Maintain and reconcile allocation schedules with Accounting, Asset Management, and Project Development so that funding, draws, and balances tie out.
  • Build and maintain amortization schedules for project- and portfolio-level debt, including non-standard structures, and check them against loan documents.

Financing execution

  • Prepare and process tax equity and debt funding draws: allocate projects to the portfolio, assemble the draw package, tie it to the model and supporting project documentation, and flag exceptions before submission.
  • Support refinancings with models, debt sizing and sensitivity analyses, payoff and net-proceeds calculations, and lender or advisor data requests.
  • Support tax equity allocation, including the portfolio analyses and the supporting cash flow schedules.
  • Support tax equity investor buyouts with modeling, scenario analysis, and diligence data review.
  • Serve as the primary support for project underwriting when needed, reviewing customer financials, preparing the analyses and documenting conclusions so leadership can make sound decisions.

Accounting support

  • Support the project sales process: track and estimate project timelines and sale dates, and communicate project sales to Accounting.
  • Support the appraisal process: review project data rooms for completeness, compile project models for third-party appraisals, and track project changes that require appraisal updates.
  • Support interest during construction: track and estimate interest during construction for Accounting.

Modeling and analysis

  • Build project-level and portfolio financial models from scratch, and review, troubleshoot, and improve existing models.
  • Reflect contract terms, incentives, and financing terms accurately in models, including revenue contracts, investment tax credits, tax equity financing, and debt financing.
  • Run ad hoc analyses and scenarios for senior leadership and cross-functional teams, and explain results clearly, including what drives them.
  • Maintain model integrity through consistent templates, version control, assumption tracking, and documented processes.
  • Maintain the corporate model and projections, making updates alongside the CFO and the Asset Management team and documenting assumption changes so leadership can rely on the outputs.

DESIRED TRAITS/QUALIFICATIONS

Required Qualifications

  • Solar project finance experience is a must: 2-3 years in project finance, structured finance, or renewable energy investing, with direct work on solar projects or portfolios.
  • Proven ability to build project finance models from scratch (not just update templates) and to explain every major assumption and output. This includes forward-looking cash flow models, DCF models, and tax-effected models.
  • Advanced Excel skills, including complex formulas, dynamic scenario and sensitivity analysis, and building models that others can audit and reuse.
  • Working knowledge of solar economics: PPAs and other offtake structures, Investment Tax Credit, depreciation, renewable energy credits and incentive programs, and how they flow into returns.
  • Strong analytical judgment: can run an analysis end to end, sanity-check results against project reality, and present a clear recommendation with the reasoning behind it, so decision-makers can decide soundly.
  • Clear written and verbal communication with internal teams, lenders, investors, and third-party advisors, in a way that holds up to follow-up questions.
  • High attention to detail on reconciliations, schedules, and draw packages, where errors reach lenders, investors, and Accounting.
  • Bachelor’s degree in finance, economics, engineering, accounting, or a related field.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with tax equity structures, including how allocations, distributions, and flip mechanics are modeled, sufficient to support tax equity allocation.
  • Experience with debt financing, including construction and term loan draws, refinancings, and debt sizing (DSCR, net-proceeds, and payoff tests).
  • Experience across distributed generation and community solar, or across multiple state incentive and REC programs.
  • Comfort reading financing documents (loan agreements, tax equity LLC agreements, PPAs) well enough to translate their terms into a model.
  • Experience building automation or tooling for modeling workflows, such as VBA, Python, or AI tools, to reduce manual work and errors.

TEAM CULTURE/BENEFITS

  • Smart, effective and highly motivated team committed to creating generational change in renewable energy
  • Casual, collaborative and results-driven work environment
  • Beautiful, bright and centrally located office, accessible by public transit
  • Competitive compensation package, including bonus
  • Health insurance, including medical, dental, and vision
  • Voluntary Life Insurance & AD&D
  • 401K plan with company contribution of 4%
  • Opportunities for professional development
  • Monthly reimbursement for wellness
  • A commitment to work-life balance
  • 15 paid holidays
  • Generous PTO and wellness days, including quarterly volunteer opportunities
  • Employee discount and benefits program for a wide range of services, including shopping, travel, health, and technology
