SUNY Ulster, a two-year branch of the State University of New York located ninety miles north of New York City in the Catskill Mountains, is currently accepting applications for adjunct teaching assignments in English to begin in January 2027.

Under the supervision of the Department Chair, the adjunct instructor will provide instruction in accordance with course descriptions, outlines, class schedules, and governing Board policy; evaluate progress of students concerning educational matters, and perform other instructional related duties as assigned.  Instructor may be assigned to the Stone Ridge and/or Kingston Center Campus.

Students read, discuss, and write essays that explore contemporary social issues.  Students work on skills necessary to meet the challenge of writing accurately and clearly on the college level.  Emphasis is on the development of a topic, critical reading and analysis of primary and secondary texts, use of appropriate rhetoric and research, and a review of grammar.  At the end of the semester, students write a research paper that demonstrates proficiency in content, organization, grammar, and MLA.

Students read and discuss literature that explores the human condition and its moral dilemmas, social problems, and values. This course continues to stress the development of writing skills, with emphasis on criticism, analysis, research methods, and documentation.
