Job Summary:
The Shop Technician is responsible for performing a variety of tasks related to the inspection, maintenance, repair, and preparation of oilfield tubular goods (e.g., drill pipe, tubing) in a fast-paced shop environment. This role requires hands-on technical skills, attention to detail, and a commitment to safety and quality standards to support oilfield operations.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspection & Maintenance: Inspect tubular goods for wear, damage, or defects using manual and automated tools; perform cleaning, and minor repairs as needed.
- Equipment Operation: Operate machinery such as cleaning machines, pressure washers, and forklifts to process and prepare tubulars for field use.
- Inventory Management: Assist in tracking inventory, organizing tubular goods, and ensuring proper storage to prevent damage or corrosion.
- Quality Control: Verify that all work meets industry standards (e.g., API specifications) and company quality requirements; document inspection results and repairs.
- Safety Compliance: Adhere to all safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE), and maintain a clean and hazard-free work environment.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with other technicians, supervisors, and field personnel to ensure timely completion of tasks and efficient workflow.
- Tool & Equipment Care: Perform routine maintenance on shop tools and equipment, reporting any malfunctions or repair needs to the supervisor.
Qualifications:
- Experience: Minimum of 1-2 years of experience in an oilfield tubular shop, manufacturing, or similar industrial environment preferred.
- Skills: Basic mechanical aptitude; familiarity with oilfield tubular goods, threading, and inspection processes is a plus.
- Certifications: Forklift certification and/or OSHA safety training preferred (or willingness to obtain).
- Physical Requirements: Ability to lift up to 50 lbs, stand for extended periods, and work in varying environmental conditions (e.g., heat, noise, dust).
- Education: High school diploma or equivalent; technical training or certification in machining or oilfield operations is an advantage.
- Attributes: Detail-oriented, reliable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Working Conditions:
- Work is primarily performed in a shop environment with exposure to heavy machinery, loud noises, and oilfield materials.
- Overtime and weekend shifts may be required based on operational demands.
