Are you an experienced mechanic who enjoys diagnosing problems, making repairs, and keeping vehicles and equipment operating safely? Midwest Energy & Communications is looking for a Mechanic to help maintain and repair our fleet of vehicles and equipment.
What You'll Do
As part of MEC's operations support team, you will help ensure our vehicles and equipment are safe, operable, and compliant with applicable requirements.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Inspecting, maintaining, diagnosing, and repairing MEC vehicles and equipment
- Troubleshooting mechanical problems quickly and accurately
- Completing emergency field repairs as needed
- Performing engine and drivetrain repairs and replacements
- Maintaining an appropriate inventory of parts and supplies
- Reviewing driver reports and ensuring needed repairs are completed
- Maintaining required government and company vehicle inspections
- Helping keep MEC's fleet safe, reliable, and operating efficiently
What You'll Bring
To qualify for this position, you must have:
- A high school diploma or GED
- Five or more years of mechanic experience and training with heavy- and medium- duty trucks
- Experience with air brakes, diesel engine repair, electrical systems, suspension and steering, Allison transmissions, exhaust systems, hydraulic systems
- The ability to interpret technical instructions and diagrams
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team
You must also possess, or be able to obtain within 180 days of placement:
- A valid Class A Commercial Driers License
- A Medical Examiner's Certificate
- An X endorsement and ASE certifications are preferred.
Work Environment
This position works primarily in a garage setting, with occasional outdoor work that may occur in adverse weather conditions. The role may occasionally require work beyond normal hours, and the garage environment is usually loud.

Job Overview
- Employment Type: Full Time, bargaining unit, non-exempt
- Service Area: Cassopolis/Paw Paw/Tecumseh
- Schedule: Weekdays, with occasional overtime or after-hours response
- Starting Wage: $47.50 per hour as defined by union contract.
- Benefits: Comprehensive insurance with minimal cost sharing and 401k plan with 8% employer contribution.
