Telesat is seeking a motivated User Terminal System Engineer to support the development, integration, verification, and documentation of Lightspeed User Terminal solutions. This role provides exposure to advanced satellite communications, government and enterprise applications, mission-critical terminal use cases, and a range of suppliers.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of experienced systems engineers while taking increasing ownership of defined work packages.
Support development and maintenance of User Terminal requirements, PRDs, interfaces, and technical specifications.
Assist with requirements updates, traceability, compliance assessment, and requirements-to-test mapping across terminal hardware, modems, and software.
Participate in supplier meetings, workshops, requirements reviews, design reviews, and integration activities.
Review supplier documentation and track technical actions, interfaces, risks, deliverables, and verification status.
Assist with writing CONOPS and requirements for fixed, mobility, and maritime applications.
Prepare and review CDRLs, test plans, procedures, reports, compliance matrices, verification records, presentations, and technical reports.
Participate in laboratory integration, testing, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and acceptance activities.
Support contractual requirements reviews, bids, proposals, design activities, and customer deliverables.
Assist with Capella operational and functional architecture updates.
Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Systems Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related technical discipline.
6 to 9 years of relevant engineering experience in systems engineering, satellite communications, telecommunications, aerospace, secure communications, networking, or a related field.
Experience supporting complex multidisciplinary product-development activities across requirements, design, integration, verification, and delivery.
Working knowledge of systems engineering, requirements management, technical documentation, integration, and verification.
Foundational knowledge of satellite communications, telecommunications, networking, RF, embedded systems, or software-intensive products.
Ability to analyze technical information, follow engineering processes, and produce clear, accurate documentation.
Familiarity with Jama, DOORS, Capella, Jira, Confluence, or equivalent tools is an asset.
Strong analytical, organizational, problem-solving, communication, and attention-to-detail skills.
Works under general supervision with increasing independence.
Makes routine technical decisions within established requirements, processes, and assigned scope.
Seeks guidance for decisions with significant architectural, contractual, safety, cost, or schedule implications.
Normally has no direct supervisory responsibility but may coordinate defined tasks as assigned.
Hybrid office environment based in Ottawa, with regular virtual and in-person engineering meetings.
Work may include activities in laboratories, integration facilities, customer sites, and supplier facilities.
Occasional domestic and international travel may be required for workshops, reviews, integration, demonstrations, and customer or supplier engagements.
Occasional schedule flexibility may be required to support tests or collaborate across time zones.
The successful candidate must be able to work in Canada and obtain clearance under the Canadian Controlled Goods program (CGP) and Reliability.
