About the Role
~1 min readWe’re looking for a Senior Tax Accountant to join our team during an exciting phase of growth. In this role, you’ll serve as a key individual contributor within the Tax Department and will have significant ownership over state and local tax compliance, tax registrations, new-state and new-site onboarding, sales and use tax, property tax, exemptions, business licenses, tax notices and tax operations.
The ideal candidate is an experienced tax professional who can independently manage assigned responsibilities, identify tax risks and opportunities, research complex state and local tax issues, and develop scalable processes. The successful candidate will be expected to operate with a high degree of independence while partnering closely with the Tax Director and cross-functional teams.
Responsibilities
~1 min readManage assigned sales and use tax compliance, including preparation, review and filing of returns.
Review taxable and exempt transactions and maintain appropriate exemption documentation.
Manage exemption certificates and related documentation.
Monitor changes in sales and use tax requirements.
Identify potential sales and use tax exposures and escalate significant issues.
Identify and evaluate state and local tax registration requirements associated with new entities, states and data center locations.
Coordinate state and local registrations, sales and use tax licenses, business licenses and other tax accounts.
Assist with nexus analysis and monitoring as the Company expands.
Identify new filing and compliance requirements associated with changes in business activities or locations.
Support tax onboarding for new data center locations, including sales/use tax, exemptions, property tax and local filing requirements.
Monitor and track state tax abatements and compliance requirements.
Support property tax compliance and reporting.
Track property and fixed assets by jurisdiction.
Coordinate property tax filings, assessments and related documentation.
Assist in identifying property tax opportunities, exemptions and abatements.
Maintain the Company's tax registration and license database.
Track renewals and jurisdictional good standing.
Maintain a comprehensive tax compliance calendar.
Track tax notices and correspondence through resolution.
Maintain organized supporting documentation for tax filings and positions.
Develop and improve recurring tax reports and processes.
Research state and local tax questions and document conclusions.
Monitor legislative and regulatory developments affecting data centers and digital transactions.
Identify potential tax incentives, exemptions and planning opportunities.
Assist with tax planning projects and modeling.
Partner with Accounting, Finance, Legal, HR, Real Estate and Operations to identify tax implications of business activities.
Provide timely tax information to internal stakeholders.
Support tax analysis of significant transactions and business changes.
Coordinate with external tax advisors as appropriate.
Participate in special financial projects, support cross-functional accounting initiatives, and perform other tax-related duties as assigned by leadership to support the evolving needs of the company.
Requirements
~1 min readBachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field.
4+ years of relevant tax or accounting experience.
Strong understanding of state and local tax concepts.
Experience with sales and use tax, state registrations, exemptions, property tax or related SALT matters.
Strong analytical and research skills.
Ability to independently manage multiple deadlines and priorities.
Strong attention to detail and documentation skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience working with cross-functional stakeholders.
Experience with rapidly growing, multi-state organizations, data centers, technology companies or complex fixed-asset environments.
