Thanx is a leading loyalty and guest engagement platform for regional and national restaurants. We help brands drive profitable growth by increasing guest frequency, growing digital sales, and reducing reliance on discounts. Most loyalty platforms work for guests who are already loyal. Thanx unifies loyalty, digital ordering, and marketing automation in one platform that turns first-time and casual guests into regulars, treating loyalty as a business outcome, not a program, and engaging across the entire guest base.

Thanx has raised more than $30M from elite investors including M33 Growth, Ribbit Capital, and Sequoia Capital. Our success is rooted in a culture that has attracted some of the best talent in the country, and we are proud of strong employee tenure, a track record of internal promotions, and the company-wide shift to working AI-native over the last 18 months. We credit our cultural “core behaviors” with these accomplishments: Think Boldly, Execute Reliably, Focus on What Matters, Say “Thanx” Genuinely, Encourage Diverse Perspectives, and Lead, Virtually.

This is not a role for someone who simply manages processes or checks boxes. We're looking for a true operator: someone who takes ownership, gets into the details, solves problems independently, and continuously looks for ways to make things better.

We're also building an AI-first finance culture. We're looking for someone who is already comfortable using AI tools in their day-to-day work and is excited to rethink traditional accounting and finance processes through automation, technology, and better systems.

This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving environment, enjoys building rather than maintaining, and wants to accelerate their career through meaningful ownership and exposure.

Everyone at Thanx has equity and is expected to operate like an owner. That means real intensity, including evenings and weekends when the work calls for it. If that isn't what you're looking for right now, this isn't the right role. We would rather you know that before you apply than after you start.

About the Role

~1 min read

We're looking for a highly motivated, hands-on Finance Manager to own our core accounting operations and help build a scalable finance function as Thanx continues to grow.

You'll be responsible for the accuracy, completeness, and timeliness of our financial reporting, including month-end close, revenue recognition, reconciliations, and billing operations. You'll work directly with the VP of Finance and collaborate across the organization to ensure our financial foundation is strong and our processes scale efficiently.

What makes this opportunity unique is the exposure beyond traditional accounting. As part of a lean, high-impact finance team, you'll have the opportunity to contribute to strategic decisions that shape the company's future, including financial planning, unit economics, M&A, and other high-priority initiatives.

At Thanx we expect every employee to be an AI-native builder, not merely a user of AI chat. As such, we view it as our job to provide the infrastructure you will need to succeed. Some of those resources:

  • Real token budgets. Every Thanx employee is given both Claude and OpenAI accounts with token allowances that should not meaningfully restrict their usage. While big companies are controlling costs, we're focused on maximizing throughput. We still want you to work smart and spend company money like it's your own, but we don't want you constrained in what you can deliver due to an arbitrary cost threshold.
  • Keystone. Our internally-built infrastructure that puts all systems, MCPs, and product, platform, and customer data (with PII stripped out) in a single place to get you up and running faster and ensure your time is spent building, not managing AI integrations and tooling, blocked on data access, or worried about violating security policies.
  • The Grid. The goal is for your AI impact to extend far beyond your own work. The Grid allows Thanxers to share tooling and systems they have built with other Thanxers to incorporate them seamlessly into their workflow or co-create together.
  • Show-and-tell. Build something or learn something new, we ask Thanxers to share it. Building in public makes getting up the learning curve a shared project, not a solo one. And it keeps the learning curve permanently steep by challenging each other with some friendly competition, even for the experts among us.

"With great power comes great responsibility." Uncle Ben

While Thanx has been around for over a decade, and this credibility serves us well in the slow-moving restaurant industry, we seek to operate at the speed of an enterprise-grade, AI-native company. Our expectations of Thanxers:

  • You are building, not asking. You treat AI as a team member, not a search engine. With every individual contributor now armed with a fleet of agents, everyone is a manager of sorts, and everyone's output should represent what a team of experts could achieve, not just one time-constrained person.
  • Your brain is always in the loop. You know these tools are likely to be confidently wrong, but you are the expert. You build a habit of correcting mistakes and unsupported assumptions and redirecting agents consistently, to save tokens and time but most importantly before something errant reaches a customer or a colleague.
  • You create for others, not just for yourself. Scaling AI productivity means crafting systems, tooling and output that move the needle for others, not just your own productivity. To do this well, all your work product should be designed to play nicely with other functions.
  • Automate repetitive finance processes. Identify opportunities to automate manual workflows across month-end close, billing, reconciliations, accounts receivable, expense management, and financial reporting, so Finance can support a growing business without proportionately increasing headcount.
  • Build smarter financial reporting and analysis. Use AI to accelerate financial analysis, variance explanations, forecasting, and management reporting, translating financial data into actionable insights.
  • Maintain strong financial controls. Balance innovation with accuracy, data security, appropriate human review, and sound accounting practices. AI should enhance financial judgment, not replace accountability.

Your performance on each of these expectations will be considered as part of all performance reviews.

Responsibilities

  • →Own the monthly close. Prepare and review journal entries, accruals, and prepaid expenses, review bank and balance sheet reconciliations, and keep the general ledger accurate and correctly classified.
  • →Manage revenue recognition. Apply GAAP to deferred revenue and customer contract accounting, and resolve discrepancies before they reach reporting.
  • →Oversee billing operations. Make sure invoices are accurate, timely, and aligned with contract terms. Partner with Sales, Customer Success, and Merchant Operations to resolve billing issues, keep customer and contract data consistent across Salesforce, Bill.com, and our accounting systems, and support accounts receivable and collections.
  • →Lead reporting and audit readiness. Prepare monthly and quarterly reporting packages with supporting schedules and variance analysis, support board, investor, and lender reporting, coordinate with external auditors and tax advisors, and maintain a strong internal control environment.
  • →Partner on strategic finance. Support the VP of Finance on forecasting, budgeting, unit economics, margin analysis, and M&A diligence, and help build reporting infrastructure that scales with the company.

We don't believe in rigid requirements, but success in this role typically involves:

  • 3 to 5 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, ideally a combination of public accounting and hands-on operating experience at a high-growth company.
  • A bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field. CPA preferred but not required.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP, including accrual accounting, revenue recognition, and financial statement preparation.
  • Experience independently managing month-end close, balance sheet reconciliations, journal entries, and financial reporting.
  • Experience with SaaS accounting, subscription billing, or recurring revenue models is strongly preferred.
  • Advanced proficiency in Excel or Google Sheets (required).
  • Demonstrated proficiency with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, or similar platforms, including practical experience using AI to improve workflows, enhance analysis, and increase productivity.
  • Ability to identify manual, repetitive finance processes and translate them into scalable, technology-enabled workflows. Experience with automation tools, AI-assisted spreadsheet analysis, or workflow integrations is a strong plus.
  • A builder's mentality: someone who doesn't accept "that's how we've always done it" and takes ownership of making processes better.
  • Experience with Salesforce, Bill.com, and modern accounting systems is a plus.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail, with the ability to connect accounting details to broader business implications.
  • Comfort in a lean, fast-moving environment where priorities shift and everyone rolls up their sleeves.
